Zell Am See Airport (LOWZ)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:51:12 UTC
Given the recent PIREPs (and not having been there for a while), I had certain expectations, but experienced it differently. Made brief position reports, received QNH and active runway; landing (and departure) at own discretion.
Parking inquiry answered succinctly (there was a lot of traffic).
24€ for 1400 MTOW is fine; eat & fly serves great food and the kitchen is open without a break.
Avgas €2.59/L also fine.
Works well for me—I’m not scraping my wingtips on rock either (per the chart, not all areas are flown around perfectly), but they do make an effort for their neighbors ;-)
Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport (LFKJ)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
Just under 48 hours before planned arrival, notified customs and Ajaccio OPS by email. Then 24 hours beforehand contacted Casavia, as there was no reply from OPS and myhandling mobile doesn’t work at all (and touchngo no longer functions).
Casavia (Richard) was there for arrival and departure (notified by phone shortly beforehand). Exit/entry directly at the gate to the rental cars (very convenient at RentaCar).
Departure also without customs—they apparently show up only rarely, as they are not on the field.
Invoice €105 for 1400 MTOW, 4 days parking, incl. handling, which was worth the money.
Avgas with BP Card for €2.24/L self-service.
ATC were friendly and helpful on both arrival and departure.
Saint Pierre D Oleron Airport (LFDP)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
On arrival, checked out with Nates and made blind position reports. Runway is in relatively good condition.
Parking is on grass, equipped with chains for tie-down. There is usually someone at the club—the airfield manager also has reasonably priced wines. Sign the book in the clubhouse and drop a donation in the tin box. No landing or parking fee is charged.
Avgas available, but I didn’t need any.
Arrange a taxi in advance or arrange loaner bicycles with the club. On arrival Monday, none of the four taxi companies (numbers posted at the field) could be reached...
The island is easy to explore by bike.
Departure also straightforward; coordinate with Nantes regarding the possibility to transit the restricted areas, otherwise
Dijon Darois Airport (LFGI)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
A/A radio. Be advised: if you transmit in English, the locals may not take you fully seriously and might cut in onto the runway despite your base/final calls.
Standard practice there is something like an overhead arrival, UK style.
Taxis are hard to get, but Uber works well, 25–30 euros to Dijon. Impressive refurbishment operation and, of course, Robin/CEAPR on site.
Two Avgas options: Total (with Total Card) or, cheaper, Avia (credit card).
The flying club is very friendly.
Overall a recommended stop, with no landing or parking fees.
Dinard Pleurtuit Saint Malo Airport (LFRD)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
Friendly, helpful tower; asks for EN or FR on approach. Apologized for a 4 min delay due to a medevac approach (!). Offered grass (close to the exit) or asphalt (due to landing gear).
Arriving from Schengen: just fly in, exit at the fire station hut (restroom in the terminal, no checks) -> note/photograph the code at the exit.
Use the code to enter for departure, pay at the fire station hut, and go.
Landing (MTOW 1400) with 3 nights: €48. Avgas 2.69/L with BP card.
Taxi: risk of being ripped off by local taxis, if one even shows up… Outbound to St Malo €60. Return booked via https://www.taxi-st-malo.com/: €31… (Uber essentially not active—tried at length both ways).
Dinard, as a somewhat decadent seaside resort, is also worth a trip.
Transit through Landisiau (military airfield) on Sunday was no problem; probably mostly fine on weekdays as well.
Quiberon Airport (LFEQ)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
Little traffic; relaxed tower operator. Approach to runway 28 over the sea, very nice.
Parking in a row on asphalt.
1.5 km to the village/small town; no problem by bike (also walkable).
Total €2.73/L with TotalCard.
Departure without radio, since the flight information officer had no AFISO qualification.
MTOW 1400: LDG + 3x PKG = €43.
Nuits Saint Georges Airport (LFGZ)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
Nuits Saint Georges is rarely staffed (even on weekends). Uncomplicated, relatively level runway with a slight upslope (20 ft over 800 m).
Chateau de Berchere has been under new management since 2022 (breakfast is very French; no restaurant). You have to explicitly ask for booking.com rates, despite avoiding the booking.com cut. Very impressive, but the highway is clearly audible.
Kyriad is about 2.5 km away and also has a restaurant.
Plenty of good restaurants in the village.
For fuel, coordinate with the club in advance, or use nearby airfields, e.g., Beaune with Totalcard (and no landing fee).
Donation appreciated, but landing/parking free of charge.
Chalon Champforgeuil Airport (LFLH)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
Well-maintained airfield nicely located in Burgundy. Easygoing tower controller, short-mown grass parking plus a small asphalt apron. LDG is a normal €16; PKG a steep €40/24h, billed per hour (4h included with LDG).
Intense parachute jumping operations with a PC6, but takeoffs and landings around the canopies are relaxed.
Taxi to town €35 for about 8 km; Uber is half that, but rarely available.
Avgas by credit card at €2.77/L.
Gourmet tip: the town has a wide selection of excellent restaurants along a small lane on the Ile St Laurent in the Saone!
Brest Bretagne Airport (LFRB)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
Friendly tower that apologized for holding due to an IFR approach. Long runway.
Register in advance with ACB Aero Club Brest Finistere and park there. Best to CC OPS (pce) directly; they must also approve—you will be asked about this prior to approach.
Entry/exit via ACB.
Landing fee up to 2 t €6.85, can be paid via aerops. Parking free at the club.
Uber to the city about €25–30.
Refueling with BP card €2.69/L.
Bastia Poretta Airport (LFKB)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:48:32 UTC
Very efficient fuel stop.
Avgas (currently?) only with BP Card, on a dedicated apron.
Friendly and helpful tower team (offered to amend a tight flight plan and assist with a shorter route...)
Avgas at €2.46/L, quite reasonably priced.
Only drawback: no toilet on the fueling apron—use the flying club on the adjacent apron.
Pavullo Airport (LIDP)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:47:10 UTC
Pavullo is a bit sporty on approach to 02, as you only see the runway late and come in with a 30° offset over downsloping terrain. Runway is perfectly maintained and upsloping at the end. Radio relaxed but precise; ENAC showpiece field ;-)
Great location in the middle of the valley; the way to Pavullo is manageable at 2 km.
Landing fee up to 2 t now €20, parking €25/night. If needed, BP Avgas available.
Before refueling, check W&B and takeoff performance. Runway is long enough, but on 02 and 20 there is rising terrain in each case!
Pavullo itself is a bit boring; in early October, half of the few restaurants in town were closed.
The on-field restaurant is good.
The field’s facilities are high standard.
You can occasionally watch the rescue helicopters training.
Good stop at a higher price level.
Tortolì Airport (LIET)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:47:10 UTC
Newly reopened airfield in good condition. Approach and departure are spectacular, directly over the beach.
Use the PPR procedure on the website; replies come quickly. They are still in the process of obtaining approvals for small CAT. Buildings etc. are prepared. Currently occasional PC-12s...
Fire crew fully staffed for ARR and DEP.
Less than 2 km to Tortoli; Arbatax is within biking/taxi distance. Beautiful beaches and opportunities for excursions into the mountains.
Hotel/restaurant tip: IKNOS. Good, reasonably priced food; inexpensive stays in freshly renovated, nice rooms. Within walking distance from the airfield.
No Avgas. Landing €25 and parking €30/night (Lido Venezia league ;-) ).
Marina Di Campo Airport (LIRJ)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:47:10 UTC
Airfield remains good and the team is friendly. Think carefully about how much tailwind you accept; the airport almost always recommends Runway 34, but that can mean you’ll need to brake with a tailwind. The approach to Runway 16 feels unusual but isn’t difficult.
Apron parking only for PA46 or twins, even retractables (hangar neighbor with the very old TwinCo was allowed on asphalt; the Trini had to go onto the grass). The grass parking area is stabilized with plastic honeycomb and, at the start of the season, is still firm and not very sanded/graveled.
Handling on arrival and departure is quick. On departure you get boarding passes and have to go through the "Terminal".
95€ for MTOW1400 including three nights of parking (40€!) is OK for a tourist destination; parking in particular is oddly expensive considering the large parking area.
Taxi was 15€, but ordered in the village 😉
Avgas is, as known, astronomically priced at 3.94/L - plan around it.
Ancona/Falconara Airport (LIPY)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:47:10 UTC
Falconara is quite good for a CAT airport in IT. As described, email ops@ancona-airport.com: Minimum Handling and ETA/ETD. They reply quickly.
Parking on Apron A, opposite side of the RWY from the terminal. Marshaller and taxi are there; chocks on request.
All major car rental companies are in the arrivals terminal—be sure to pre-book online—otherwise about triple the price on site!
Ancona is 17 km away.
For departure, go to Security, register your private flight there; a staff member accompanies you to settle the bill, then a taxi to the aircraft from there.
Landing and 4 nights parking, MTOW 1400 and 2 crew = €90 (incl. handling).
Tower friendly and helpful on arrival and departure.
Avgas available, not needed.
Ferrara Airport (LIPF)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:42:41 UTC
Ferrara is PPR on weekdays per NOTAM. Permission is granted quickly via email. Airfield rather deserted (Thu, 1700); entered making blind transmissions.
At departure (Fri, 1700) another aircraft was preparing.
Arrival/departure in contact with Bologna Radar and Padova Information. No issues.
Unfortunately, officially no Avgas for third parties outside the club.
Pescara Airport (LIBP)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:42:41 UTC
Email for PPR is answered promptly (provide all data, ETA/ETD, DEP/DES even if not yet certain, a VAT No ;-), name & address of the operator).
Reception very friendly, parking opposite the terminal, back-in toward the grass.
Drivalia offers a good off-season rate for rental cars even without a booking on site.
Security with license was no issue and billing was quick. Handling €50, bus €12. LDG/TO €7. PKG 3 nights €11 (1400 MTOW) a bit pricey for an overnight, but attractive for a stay with €4/day parking.
On departure the controller was a bit confused and had us taxi around: B RWY A TWY B, backtrack 04... ;-)
Brescia/Montichiari Airport (LIPO)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:42:41 UTC
Parking must be reserved (by phone or email) because at night several freighters are on quick turnarounds and need the space. When possible you get the green light immediately.
The whole team is very friendly. Cones all around, chocks, and a taxi to the terminal—and all that for €30 handling (greetings to EDFL for the €60 cone game there). In addition, just under €10 were charged for landing and one night of parking. They will call a taxi; to Brescia it’s about €35–40.
Brescia is a nice Italian city. The field is a real alternative to the grass strips in the area—and with IFR approaches…
Ravenna Airport (LIDR)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:42:41 UTC
Uncomplicated, almost deserted airfield. 48 hr PPR due to fire brigade standby. But on weekends there are 1 or 2 jump aircraft operating, so you can just fly in—monitor the aerodrome frequency and/or Bologna Approach to hear when a drop has taken place / aircraft are on the ground. Do not land when parachutists are in the air.
Taxi best via app, or by kwiggle ;-)
No fees, no Avgas, no service.
Caution—on Mondays the field is closed! Really closed, from prior experience ;-)
Palermo/Bocca Di Falco Airport (LICP)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:42:41 UTC
Challenging approach, especially from the NW, winding around mountains with no line of sight to the runway. Runway in good condition. PPR with an unnecessarily detailed web form, but quick response.
Taxiway quite narrow.
A bit expensive: landing and 3 days of parking €100, of which €65 “handling” (MTOW 1400). Avgas would have been €3.50/L—still, good that it’s available at all.
Extremely friendly team on site, offering technical and practical help. Taxi, or Lorenzo from the club, costs €30 per ride. Theoretically Uber is cheaper; in practice, it isn’t.
Traffic is heavy at all times; the 6 km often take half an hour. Not really safe by bike either.
The city is an experience.
A.Li. Caorle Airport (LIKE)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:42:41 UTC
As part of a small Easter tour, we also stopped by Caorle. Runway and taxiway have fairly long grass. Call Pietro now (+393490029012; see Avioportolano). A donation box is now at the exit. Surprisingly little traffic. Still good coffee at the club. Outside the season you can also find something in Caorle for €70. On weekends and holidays, no problem getting a climb north directly after departure from Treviso Approach.
Olbia/Costa Smeralda Airport (LIEO)
by ch • 2025-08-27 15:42:41 UTC
Mandatory handling works. Arrival and departure are straightforward and quick. Release on 130.405 prior to startup is a nuisance. Not much going on yet in May. Goldcar is at the terminal and has good cars and prices with online booking. The walk between the GA terminal and the car rental is too far without a bicycle.
LDG, PKG 3 nights, handling, no PAX = 68€
Lelystad Airport (EHLE)
by ch • 2023-10-27 00:00:00 UTC
Diversion due to excessively wet/soft runway at Hilversum. Light traffic due to poor weather, so as an exception cleared straight-in to 05 instead of entry via Bravo. Follow-me to parking.
Letňany Airport (LKLT)
by ch • 2018-06-02 00:00:00 UTC
Everything went smoothly for me again today: arrival via Romeo and landing on 23R. Taxi slowly on the taxiway. Everyone was friendly and helpful. On request, a later departure would also have been possible (for an additional landing fee—reasonable). Metro to the center (+/- 20 min) is a 10 min walk, BUT bring coins—best to get change right at the field! Everything else can be paid by card or in EUR.
