What other pilots say about LKLT
All in all great airfield for an extended weekend in Prague. We entered via one of the reporting points into Kbely military CTR <2000ft AMSL, got cleared direct LKLT and transferred to Latnany Radio a minute before reaching LKLT. We later left via the East Sector and the suggested exit/entry point Kostelec n. Labem <2000ft and switched directly to PRAHA Information. The runways were well marked, the runway 5L/23R was level as promised but patches of grass were missing, so not totally smooth (keep your yoke pulled after landing). Taxiways are not level and not clearly marked, taxi with caution. Wasn't an issue for us. You can walk to the Metro ~15min west of the field, it leaves frequently and the ride takes further ~15min to the city center. Tickets cost 30CZK for 30min, 40CZK for 90min. Airfield fees are listed on their website and quite transparent. For a PA28 (<1200MTOW) we paid ~70€ for landing (500CZK) and 2 nights parking (3x 400CZK, counts as 3 days). The local crew was very friendly and helped us with engine starting trouble, pulled the plane to the fuel station and would have jump started if needed without extra charge. They only have the Cessna, not the Piper plug though.
LKLT is increasingly aware of its advantages: the only Prague airfield with a Metro station within walking distance (and no, these days you no longer need coins for the ticket machine). Fees are now firmly in the solid two-digit range for a landing with 1–2 days of parking—despite a notoriously bumpy grass runway. And in rainy weather you can find yourself “stuck” in Lethnany and end up extending your Prague stay. I could never confirm the reports of hefty fines for deviating from the not-easily-identifiable taxiways: Tower and staff were always friendly and accommodating. By the way: English gets you through easily on Tower and Ground. I also know the two alternatives in Prague: the main airport, LKPR, and Vodochody (LKVO). LKPR is affordable (upper €100 bracket for a SEP, good service, taxi is largely the only option). Vodochody is often closed, with very limited opening hours and poor access; moreover, my JET-A1 fuel stop a few years ago took 30 minutes just for invoicing. In Lethnany, all of that is simpler and faster. My VFR arrivals were always via Mike and Kbely Tower; on IFR I was essentially vectored straight onto final (obviously with no published IFR approach).
Everything went smoothly for me again today: arrival via Romeo and landing on 23R. Taxi slowly on the taxiway. Everyone was friendly and helpful. On request, a later departure would also have been possible (for an additional landing fee—reasonable). Metro to the center (+/- 20 min) is a 10 min walk, BUT bring coins—best to get change right at the field! Everything else can be paid by card or in EUR.
Letnany (LKLT) is a grass airfield within the Kbely military CTR, suitable for VFR and Y/Z IFR arrivals and departures. Both runways (05L/23R and 05R/23L) are available; 05L/23R is generally smoother and preferred, while 05R/23L can be rough with significant bumps and undulations. Taxiways are often very uneven, so taxi slowly and with care. Markings on runways and taxiways can be unclear, especially in poor visibility or after rain, so review the published procedures on the airport website before arrival. All fuels (100LL, 91UL, Mogas) are usually available; Jet A1 may not always be in stock—check NOTAMs or email in advance.
Coordination with Kbely Tower is required for entry and exit through the military CTR; handover to Letnany Info occurs close to the field. The circuit is tight, and published entry points must be followed. For Z departures, coordinate with Praha Flow Management as per ENR 1.9.1.5.1. English is spoken on frequency, but some ground staff may have limited English skills.
Fees are at the upper end of normal for GA in the region. Example: landing and one night parking about €45–€80 depending on duration and number of passengers; passenger fee about 180 CZK per person, pilot/co-pilot excluded; parking is charged per calendar day rather than per 24 hours. Example: landing about €20; overnight parking about €20–€30; hangar about €20 per day when available.
Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, offering assistance with parking, refueling, and arranging taxis or guidance to public transport. However, there are multiple reports of strict enforcement of airfield rules with significant penalties (up to €200) for procedural errors such as taxiing outside marked areas or operating outside published hours—review local procedures carefully.
There is no restaurant or bar onsite; only a vending machine is available in the small terminal building. The large Kbely Aviation Museum is a 5–15 minute walk from the airfield and free to enter. Metro line C (Letnany station) is a 10–15 minute walk from the field; from there it takes about 20–30 minutes to reach central Prague by public transport. Taxis or ride-hailing services cost around €10–€25 to the city center depending on provider and traffic; when booking a taxi, specify "Aeroklub Praha Letnany" to avoid confusion.
Customs/police attendance can be arranged for non-Schengen flights by submitting a request via the airport website (typically PNR M-F 24hr/O/T 48hr); police may not always arrive punctually but issues are usually resolved with staff assistance.
Letnany offers excellent access to Prague for GA pilots but requires careful attention to procedures due to its location within controlled airspace and strict local rules. Facilities are basic but functional, service is generally very good, and ground access to Prague is fast and convenient by metro or taxi.
