Civil Airfield Letnany (LKLT)

All in all great airfield for an extended weekend in Prague. We entered via one of the reporting points into Kbely military CTR <2000ft AMSL, got cleared direct LKLT and transferred to Latnany Radio a minute before reaching LKLT. We later left via the East Sector and the suggested exit/entry point Kostelec n. Labem <2000ft and switched directly to PRAHA Information. The runways were well marked, the runway 5L/23R was level as promised but patches of grass were missing, so not totally smooth (keep your yoke pulled after landing). Taxiways are not level and not clearly marked, taxi with caution. Wasn't an issue for us. You can walk to the Metro ~15min west of the field, it leaves frequently and the ride takes further ~15min to the city center. Tickets cost 30CZK for 30min, 40CZK for 90min. Airfield fees are listed on their website and quite transparent. For a PA28 (<1200MTOW) we paid ~70€ for landing (500CZK) and 2 nights parking (3x 400CZK, counts as 3 days). The local crew was very friendly and helped us with engine starting trouble, pulled the plane to the fuel station and would have jump started if needed without extra charge. They only have the Cessna, not the Piper plug though.

The airfield lies within a TMZ/ATC/RMZ with AFIS, radar support, and arrival/departure routes. It borders Class D and is directly beneath Frankfurt Class C, so mind altitude and position. A long asphalt runway and a grass runway are available, also for parallel operations (no T&Gs there). Flying in the southern traffic pattern is only possible on request for noise abatement. In winter, night operations between ECET and 21:00 LT are possible with PPR—at no extra cost. UL aircraft generally require PPR. On the field there are AVGAS, JET and UL91, as well as several flight schools, clubs, and the Röder Präzision GmbH workshop. IFR procedures are not available. The Brazilian rodizio restaurant overlooking the apron is not geared toward pilots; a few meters further the “Gute Landung” beer garden awaits. For onward travel, e-bikes and App2Drive cars are available; Egelsbach S-Bahn station is about a 21-minute walk, from there it’s only 24 minutes to Frankfurt (Hauptwache).

Great experience. Professional on the radio during the approach, then Follow Me to the GA apron. On request the Follow Me can take you to the main terminal; from there you walk past the baggage carousels straight to the U-Bahn in front of the building. It runs every 10 minutes and you’re in the city center in under 15 minutes. Accommodation at CloudOne was excellent, with a city view at breakfast or in the bar. Be sure to note the GAT opening hours (much shorter on weekends), otherwise significantly higher fees may be charged. In my case they apparently turned a blind eye and charged the standard rates. If the GAT is closed, after coordination with Ops the gate guard will let you in via Gate 1 (to the right of the main terminal building) and, after security screening, you’ll be driven to the GA apron:

The radio operator(s) were still somewhat inexperienced, but with supervisory oversight apparently stepping in, operations worked smoothly even with simultaneous parachute jumping, glider operations on grass, and our powered aircraft on asphalt with VFR and IFR flight plans. Operations, including winch launches, run in parallel—likely made possible by the expansive airfield. Observe the arrival/departure procedures and the Linz airspace both vertically and laterally. Aerodrome operated by the club Weiße Möve; very friendly welcome and service. Fees for a Piper PA28 (<1,2 t): parking per day €12,25, plus a rather high landing fee of €24,90. Catering available. Taxi or Uber to the city or to the Ibis about €15–20.

Relaxed service both on the radio and at the GAC (GA-Center). A Follow-me guided us to the apron. Friendly guidance even for small uncertainties on the ground frequency; good sequencing by ATC of our two PA28 on approach behind a landing Boeing 737. Parking at Hangar 7 and at the Tower is limited; request in advance. This also avoids the fee of over 15€ per ride for terminal chauffeur service, since both Hangar 7 and the GAC are within walking distance. We paid 66,23€ gross for a PA28, 4 hours of parking included: - Landing fee up to 1.5 t 37,44€ - Noise surcharge 10% 3,74 - Arrival/departure fee 25,04€ From the GAC it’s a 10–15 min walk through the underpass to Hangar 7, with free admission. We had good Austrian food 5 min from Hangar 7 at Kuglhopf.

Uncontrolled "Radio" airport without AFIS but professional and friendly radio work. It was a busy saturday, lot's of traffic with different speeds (powered gliders, ultralights, echo class). Great view of the city from the traffic pattern. Good destination for a day/weekend trip. Visit the "Schlossberg" and old town, try local food and dip your feet into the Bächle.
- 15€ landing fee for a Piper Arrow 2 (MTOW = 1179kg). Parking on grass.
- 10min walk to the last stop "Messe" for lines 1 and 4 taking about 15min into the city center.
- self service station fee payment on the ground floor of the tower (also the exit)

Relaxed uncontrolled airfield with a comparatively long runway and a namesake old town that is a highly attractive destination for a day/weekend trip, 15 min away by bicycle. There are 20-25 bicycles of sufficient quality available; they shouldn’t run out quickly. A €10 deposit gets you a lock; the rental itself is free. Landing fee for a PA28 €10. To reach the town, take the country road or, a bit bumpier, the gravel path along the railway line. A good Italian restaurant, not only frequented by pilots, offers good dining. Two parking stands on asphalt; otherwise grass. Friendly tower staff. Generally, no PPR required.
