Hawarden Airport (EGNR)

by Philipp2026-04-20 09:33:09 UTC

As Gunter wrote; everything really wonderful. In Europe the 'FBO' concept as in the USA doesn’t really exist, but the local company 'Aviation Park' comes very close: its own apron, hangars, own fuel trucks, marshalling, lounge, etc. All of this with very friendly service and short walking distances. Also, in the UK fully IFR-capable fields with acceptable fees are very rare. Well, this is one. We obtained PPR by email from Aviation Park; they took care of forwarding it to ATC. For the IFR approach it depends somewhat on whether you are coming from the airways system or not. If not, and you are coming from the east, you must initially take great care to stay below all the controlled airspace, because ad hoc clearances are only available to a very limited extent. Then, however, trouble-free radar vectors (also rare in the UK) from Hawarden Radar onto the ILS. Fees moderate. Jet fuel at about 1,70€ per liter, typically inexpensive for the UK (even though it is cheaper elsewhere in the UK). If you are walking as a group from the apron toward the FBO (very short distance), only one person needs hi-vis. Very friendly staff. Taxi or UBER to Chester roughly 22–27€ converted. Chester is very pleasant and worth seeing.

Praha/Ruzyně Airport (LKPR)

by Alex2026-04-19 12:23:03 UTC

Bonanza A36 IFR. Rwy 06/24 was closed per NOTAM so the other runway got quite busy. The arrival and approach was straightforward with vectoring and good ATC communication. You get multiple radar frequency changes before handoff to tower. They asked to keep best speed until 6nm final (150kts in my case). Guide in with follow me car after leaving runway.

Parking is on the south apron near terminal 3 where the GAT is located. Handler drives you there (in our case CZ Airlines). Very friendly and uncomplicated.

The airport requires a slot for arrival and also departure which the handler organizes for you. Short term schedule changes (up to half an hour before in our case) was no problem.

You will have to ask startup and clearance at the earliest EOBT -15 min, at the latest +5 min.
Be ready to do a running takeoff immediately or very shortly when reaching the holding point. I did my engine runup on the parking stand since it was out in the middle of nowhere (stand S16) and I was alone there.
Departure is straightforward with vectors for separation and shortcuts.
Again very professional and friendly ATC all around.

Costs for 3 overnights incl. handling, 1 adult PAX, 1 infant:
289€.

GAT is very clean modern with a lounge with free beverages. Security check was quick. The handler himself has to be called, upon arrival or beforehand, at the GAT for your departure. He will let you through the lounge and security check. He drove me alone to the plane for the preflight and brought my family upon my request 20 min later to the plane for boarding. Nice for them to rest in the lounge and not in the sun (or rain) on the apron.

I recommend arriving 1h to 1,5h before EOBT at the GAT depending on how much preflight you need to do.

Lugano Airport (LSZA)

by Euro Aviators2026-04-19 10:38:55 UTC

Very nicely located airport. Excellent ATC and friendly ground staff. Good on-field restaurant, and there are numerous additional dining options in the immediate vicinity. Only a 10 min walk to the lake and to Agno railway station.

However, only two stars because of the totally excessive charges. The basic landing fee for a Rockwell Commander (1474 kg MTOW) of 32,00 CHF plus the Skyguide fee (ATC) of 17,85 CHF are still fair, but then: 20 CHF noise surcharge, 10 CHF winter surcharge (even though mid-April with over 20°C—Lugano isn’t Samedan), 1,35 CHF emissions surcharge, and no less than 20 CHF surcharge per departing passenger! With 3 PAX and 17.50 CHF parking fees for a 5-hour stay (3,50 CHF per hour), and 8,1% VAT, the final bill came to 171,50 CHF. Absolutely outrageous for such a provincial airport. Since there is no security screening, the airport has zero passenger-handling effort, yet they still make sure to cash in. Extremely unfortunate for this beautiful destination. Tip: Fly to Locarno for a fraction of the cost and, if needed, take public transport from there into Lugano.

Reinsdorf Airport (EDOD)

by Elmar2026-04-16 17:52:03 UTC

Charming, family-friendly special airfield south of Berlin. PPR in principle, but usually attended. Lots of training traffic and glider operations — a pleasure to watch the action from the restaurant terrace. AVGAS 100LL available.

Bornholm/Rønne Airport (EKRN)

by Elmar2026-04-16 16:43:45 UTC

Bornholm Rønne remains an exemplary, pragmatic airport for General Aviation.

For instrument approaches, a SUP is currently in effect until the end of 2028 due to cranes in the harbor. In practice—weather permitting—ATC will usually accommodate a visual approach without issue.

Aircraft are parked on a well‑maintained grass area. Exit without staff contact via the double wire‑mesh gates next to the blue hangar. Rental cars should, as previously noted, definitely be booked in advance.

Before departure, payment is made in the crew briefing room; afterwards, access to the aircraft is via the mesh gates with license, receipt, and ID card.

AVGAS 100LL is no longer available.

Fees: For 1.3 t MTOW and one night of parking, DKK 138 (about EUR 18).

Aerodrome Lošinj/Lošinj I. Airport (LDLO)

by Elmar2026-04-16 15:50:51 UTC

Mali/Veli Lošinj remain top destinations—especially in spring, when the weather is already pleasant and things are still quiet.

Unfortunately, the increasingly poor reviews of the field are understandable: after the fees in recent years were padded with “fantasy” items (crew fee, centralized infrastructure fee), they were raised significantly again in 2026: now €300 for 1.3 t MTOW, 3 days’ parking including transfer into town. There’s hardly any service in return: ATC is on site only on weekends; assistance with baggage—as in Portorož—or pickup directly at the aircraft are not offered. Overall, more of a small self-service field while charging the fee level of a commercial airport.

From a flying standpoint, everything is as usual; Croatian ATC is, as ever, good and customer‑oriented. Departure VFR or with a Z flight plan if no ATC is on the field. AVGAS 100LL just over €3; via fuel truck.

Swansea Airport (EGFH)

by Alistair2026-04-16 09:14:28 UTC

Correcting a few inaccuracies in the AI-generated summary:
1. The airport is normally open every day, and is NOTAM closed otherwise
2. Runway 28 is tarmac with a good surface, no more prop hazard exists than any other runway
3. Runways 10 and 28 have a slight uphill component in their landing zones, not significant

Great airport with a paved runway. Friendly FDL and 7 EUR for a training landing with MTOW 750 kg. Unfortunately, the restaurant is only open on request, but the town is not far and always worth a visit!

Speck Fehraltorf Airport (LSZK)

by Meff2026-04-11 14:27:51 UTC

April 2026. LSZK-Speck. Small, well-organized airfield. Tight airspace. Study arrival and departure procedures thoroughly in advance. Grass runway with reinforcement matting. Close to Zürich. 15 min walk to the S-Bahn; from there 25 min to Zürich-Stadelhofen. Uber to Zürich ~40 min and about CHF 55. Landing fee (noise class D, up to 1000 kg): CHF 20.99; overnight parking CHF 11.89; customs clearance (non-homebased) CHF 32.40 per person; Mogas CHF 1.91; Avgas 100 LL CHF 2.66. Restaurant on the field, closed Mondays. Straightforward handling, friendly people, pretty good location for a trip to Züri!

Long Beach (Daugherty Fld) Airport (KLGB)

by Thomas2026-04-11 13:05:56 UTC

Did my IFR + ME at Angel City Flyers. Super busy airport with commercial operations, multiple flight schools and maintenance organizations. Highly recommended - if you can fly there and are fluid with comms, you can fly anywhere. There is a big training area over the water which is super busy. KLGB is always fine with training approaches on the 30, even between two airliners. Excellent ATC service.

River Falls Airport (H81)

by Thomas2026-04-11 13:04:02 UTC

Most likely the best FBO I‘ve ever been to. The most friendly people run this pilot-operated FBO. Of course, the fuel is jawdroppingly cheap, but they‘re super dedicated to get a quick turnaround. Been there twice with a Citation Mustang this month. The first time they „only“ had self-serve fuel but the friendly people helped with the refueling - they promised to have a fuel truck next time. And they did. They now have a full serve fuel truck, selling JET A1 for the same price as self serve. They refueled both wings in parallel, they‘ve set up a super nice and complementary refreshments area with coffee and snacks - just wow. And they even gave me a free redline baseball cap as giveaway. Excellent choice when flying from coast to coast. People, go there, support them, get cheap fuel and enjoy Texas friendlyness! Definitely five stars!

Taylor Muni Airport (T74)

Very friendly and responsive airport manager. Small airport, but excellent alternative to the overpriced airports in Austin. Landed with a Citation Mustang there without problems. Uber took to long, but got a Lyft quickly which drove us to Austin without traffic. Highly recommended, especially during SXSW or other major events in the city of Austin.

Gillespie County Airport (T82)

Nice and friendly FBO. Stayed with a Citation Mustang one night, all without any problems. Rental car available also from the FBO if you call them before. Fredericksburg is a fun town, by the way.

Being not part of the EU or Schengen flying to this airport requires permit from Macedonian CAA (slotcoordinationskp@tav.aero, rco.rco@mnavigation.mk, agramatikov@caa.gov.mk) and notice to the airport (ops@tav.aero). AVGAS is available, payment by cash only (April 2025 €2/l).
The service is perfect and fast, tiedowns and chocks available. Approach is stunning due to the gorgeous and mountaineus landscape. Fees are low (landing an three day parking for 1500 MTOW adds up to less than €50)
The town of Ohrid itself is a wonderful place to visit due to the wealth of history. Conveniently reachable by taxi, rental car not recommended due to limited parking space in the city. Boat trip to St. Naum highly recommended.

Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport (LFKJ)

by Timo2026-04-08 16:50:16 UTC

Overall everything was fine. Landing fee and parking for 3 nights for an SEP: 90 Euro. So rather on the expensive side.
IFR arrival and departure were uneventful.

Update April 2026
Still all very straightforward. Price-wise we were at 180 Euro for an IFR approach (shortly before HR*), including lighting, parking for 5 nights and handling.
Rather annoying: one day before departure a NOTAM was published stating that no AVGAS was available. We had received a confirmed BP Fuel release days earlier, but that did not help, so we had to go to Figari (LFKF) to refuel.
