Civil Airfield Rendsburg Schachtholm (EDXR)

by Michael2025-11-20 10:44:40 UTC

Great airfield for General Aviation.

It's one of the few fields that is open 24/7 and has a very moderate PPR fee to do Night training.

If you're on a training, you can also get a "Flat Rate" for T&G landings.

100% recommendation from my side!!

Civil Airfield Langeoog (EDWL)

by Michael2025-10-21 10:57:35 UTC

Great GA Airfield with one paved runway. Due to its location on one of the frisian islands, expect regular crosswind.

Unfortunately no gastronomic options on site, but the next restaurant is only a few min walk away (depending on the season there could be more or less open restaurants).

The island is a car-free island, so you can order a horse-drawn chariot to pick you and your luggage at the airport. Otherwise, the town is only a casual 20min stroll away and also very doable with luggage.

In the spring and fall season, be aware of the sea fog which can very quickly turn a great VFR day into a no-fly operation.

Civil Airfield Letnany (LKLT)

by Michael2025-10-21 10:53:37 UTC

Before approaching Letnany, make sure to inform yourself about the procedures upfront both on the website as well as in the AIP.

Given that you will need to cross military airspace, contacting Kbely Tower is mandatory, but the guys there are super friendly and supportive. Due to LKLT being the primary GA airfield in Prague with some flight schools located there as well, expect a busy radio frequency.

On the ground, be aware of the taxiways being a bit bumpy (no high speed taxi) and ensure that you communicate your intentions with the local tower.

Fees can be paid via Aerops and on site you can buy a few refreshments.

Civil Airfield Zell Am See (LOWZ)

by Michael2025-10-02 11:34:09 UTC

LOWZ is one of the GA jewels in Austria (and beyond). Due to the special pattern, the encompassing terrain as well as the entry / exit procedures, a proper briefing before departure is mandatory.

I have a few times seen pilots approaching the wrong runway, which is an absolutely unacceptable mistake that can easily kill!

Great restaurant on site, accomodation recommendation is the Tauern Spa Kaprun.

Civil Airfield Warszawa Babice (EPBC)

by Michael2025-10-02 11:22:16 UTC

Great GA airfield with long opening hours, allowing for VFR Night approaches also. The controllers speak good English but most of the local pilots report their position in Polish. The airspace around the airfield is complex (with EPWA just around and above), so please familiarize yourself with it upfront. The pattern is also not in a rectangular, but a special shape. Due to a few flight schools being located at EPBC, you can expect quite a bit of traffic. An Uber to the city center can be ordered quickly and usually only costs between 15 and 20EUR

Airport Billund (EKBI)

by Michael2025-10-02 08:30:04 UTC

Easy approach and quite straightforward communication with EKBI Tower Controller. Handling is mandatory - you can choose between 3 FBOs (JoinJet, Blackbird, Air Alsie). Join Jet is for small GA the most economic (the others were up to 4 times more expensive) and also a really great FBO! They deliver you to the hotel and pick you up on demand. Free F&B in the lounge.

Prices for a weekend with a C-172 (VFR, 3pax, 2 nights): - airport fee: 94EUR - parking: 25EUR / day - Pax fee: 27EUR / person - Handling: 300EUR (50EUR during weekdays from 0800-1600LT) - 25% Tax

Accomodation recommendation: The Lodge Billund - right next to legoland and lalandia, but without the usual Lego "surcharge" and with a really healthy breakfast
