What other pilots say about EDAZ
Very good airfield website with all conceivable info. The crosswind runway 12/30 no longer exists. IFR arrival and IFR departure no longer require separate PPR. When flying the SID, strictly observe the maximum altitude of 2000 ft. Often very busy traffic in the circuit. VFR, the approach from the south, west, and east is quite easy; from the north it’s a bit tricky due to the airspace structure, including a nature reserve. Friendly AFISOs. Visitor parking areas are conveniently close to the fuel station. Fuel prices are not particularly attractive. App2Drive is available, as well as airfield-owned rental cars. There is also a shuttle service to/from Trebbin station for €15 each way. You should request it in advance with some lead time. Also try to time your arrival, as trains run only hourly (departures from Trebbin between :20 and :26 past the hour). But then it’s only 20 minutes to Südkreuz and 30 minutes to Hauptbahnhof. By car from the field to Berlin takes just under an hour, as the field is quite remote. A landing voucher booklet saves €30 in landing fees for an SR22 at 1542 kg. Parking fee €15 per night. The IFR approach now costs a hefty €40 extra, which is by now almost standard at German AFIS fields. All fees can be checked here: https://gat.aerops.com/prices/calculator/EDAZ
One of the best and most friendly GA airports when traveling to Berlin - highly recommended. No slot coordination call required anymore! Also customs handling is available for non-schengen Flights, e.g. to the UK. They also have an ATIS since recently, which is nice.
Make sure you exactly study the aeronautical maps to avoid infringements - the airfield is near to a nature reserve to the left and the Class C Airspace of Berlin Brandenburg international to the east. This is also relevant for IFR Departures, make sure you checked the maximum height in the departure routines.
My home base—what can I say—this is how a general aviation airfield should be. The only minor criticism is the hours of operation, which of course could be earlier and later. But of course there are people working there, and everyone is so helpful and friendly.
EDAZ (Schönhagen) is a well-equipped, busy GA airfield southwest of Berlin, offering both VFR and IFR operations. IFR arrivals require PPR, typically coordinated via Bremen ACC at +49 421 5372-141, with permission granted up to three hours before EOBT; departures do not require PPR. IFR approach fees are about €40, payable to DFS. The airport manages all handling directly—there is no separate FBO—and staff are consistently described as friendly, efficient, and helpful.
Facilities include self-service fuel (Jet A at the pump), Cirrus and other maintenance services on site, and secure parking with tie-down rings embedded in the apron. Rental cars (notably via App2Drive) are available at the field; booking ahead is recommended due to occasional limited availability. Shuttle service to Trebbin railway station costs about €12 and takes 7–10 minutes; from there, trains run hourly to Berlin city centre in 25–45 minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing services such as Uber are also options, with typical travel times to central Berlin around 20–25 minutes by car.
The on-field restaurant offers panoramic runway views and is generally well regarded for food and service, though some variability in quality has been noted. Accommodation is available in simple but clean rooms within walking distance of the terminal; breakfast starts at 8:00.
Operational cautions include strict adherence to published circuit procedures and noise abatement: avoid overflying the bird sanctuary west/northwest of the field below 2000 ft AGL. Departures on runway 25 must remain above 600 m AGL over the Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung SPA; deviations from published SIDs are not permitted. Turbulence may occur on final for runway 07 during easterly winds.
Customs/passport control is available without advance notice for Schengen flights; non-Schengen procedures are straightforward when required. Contact ops@edaz.de or +49 33731-30532 for operational questions or arrangements.
Fees are generally moderate for Germany. Example: IFR approach about €40; overnight parking about €40; shuttle to Trebbin station about €12.
Schönhagen is widely regarded as a top choice for GA access to Berlin due to its facilities, service quality, and efficient operations.
