Saint Die Remomeix Airport (LFGY)
by Gunter • 2026-02-28 12:23:54 UTC
The AD is beautifully situated in the Vosges mountains and this location for sure makes it worth a visit. There are no fees but donations are welcome. Radio communication is aircraft to aircraft and French only. According to the AIP there is Avgas by Carte Total, but we didn't refuel. St. Dié can be reached on foot but it's a stretch, otherwise a bus stop is close to the field. The town has a rich history but is actually a bit underwhelming. It was destroyed completely in WW II and rebuilt in the fifties.
Hawarden Airport (EGNR)

Very nice AD with the usual UK idiosyncrasies - wear high viz and get your PPR with ATC and the FBO. Small aircraft are handled by Aviation Park at an affordable rate. We paid around 55£ for landing and two nights parking. Service was very friendly and fuel was relatively inexpensive as well. The FBO is located at the northwestern corner of the field and taxiways are a bit confusing, so have better have the AD chart ready. There is a nice Café next to the FBO. Chester is a short Uber ride away. The city is really nice and you'll need a day to visit its sights.
Iqaluit Airport (CYFB)
by Gunter • 2026-02-28 11:18:48 UTC
Alongside Goose Bay, one of the two usual Canadian endpoints of the NAT route. According to the AIP handling is actually not required but apparently it's really difficult to get airside to landside and back without it. Unfortunately it's expensive: we paid around 300€ including call out fee (what you'll need if you want to depart early). Service was good, though. Avgas has to be purchased in drums of 200 liters but it's cheap: around 250€ per drum. To me Iqaluit is more appealing than Goose, but that's just my personal feeling.
Kangerlussuaq Airport (BGSF)
by Gunter • 2026-02-28 10:56:10 UTC
Probably the the easiest of the Greenland stops along the NAT route. It is less susceptible to bad weather than Nuuk and the approach isn't as demanding as at Narsarsuaq. Like the other Greenland ADs it's expensive: last time we paid over 170€ for a short fuel stop and Avgas was 4.20€ per liter. Service was quick and friendly again.
Aubenas Ardeche Meridionale Airport (LFHO)
by Gunter • 2026-02-19 10:52:45 UTC
One of our favorites in France. We have been there several times and always walked down to the cute little village of Lanas on the Ardeche river. There you can stay at the Auberge du Vieux Lanas. Hiking in the area is highly recommended, for those so inclined. The field is staffed only on weekdays and radio is always A/A, so French is required. No fees. Runway is long, no difficulties. Avgas by CC but more expensive than at other ADs in France. The restaurant at the field was open on occasion but not always. We just had ice cream there once so I can't say anything about the food but staff was very friendly.
Egletons Airport (LFDE)
by Gunter • 2026-02-19 10:23:45 UTC
Small AD in exceptionally beautiful landscape. No fees but when we visited in summer there was not much going on. Only Mogas seems to be available but you will have to raise somebody to get it. The paved RWY is 800m long but at almost 2000ft elevation and in the hilly terrain even this can gat short on a hot day. It's about half an hours walk to town. There is kind of a resort by the lake west of threshold 07 where we stayed. It was simple but we liked it. Moreover, there is an Ibis close by. Dinner at a restaurant in town was excellent. There is a roadhouse adjacent to the field but lunch there was terrible.
Reichelsheim Airport (EDFB)
by Gunter • 2026-02-19 09:50:57 UTC
There have been rather negative reviews on Reichelsheim on various platforms. However, from recent experience I cannot confirm this. To the contrary, the radio operator was really friendly. It was a rather busy Sunday afternoon but without any problems. We paid 31€ landing and parking (just an hour or so) for a 1420kg Mooney. Payment via Aerops is mandatory. They publish current fuel prices on their web site - compared to other ADs in the area it seems rather expensive though. The field is out in the boonies, that's true, but everybody who flies there will know that. One reason to come might be the restaurant. It was quite good when we visited and it receives good reviews on Google.
Guenzburg Donauried Airport (EDMG)
by Gunter • 2025-12-07 18:31:18 UTC
The little grass field is home to an extremely friendly and very active aero club. The AD is PPR, however you‘re welcome to call in on the radio and see if someone is there. On weekends and nice days that’s almost guaranteed. Unattended operations are restricted to based aircraft but you can apply for PPR and someone will come out. Fees are modest, see https://www.lsvgz.de/flugplatz for details.
As in many places in Germany noise sensitive neighbors are a problem to the airfield operator, so stick to the published pattern for noise abatement.
The runway can be a bit rough, especially in the winter. Pilots of aircraft with retractable gear or tight wheel pants may want to land somewhere else in these conditions. It might be advisable to land a little to the right or left of the centerline to find smoother ground. Here is a little video of a landing with a 182: https://youtu.be/lIhtl9pUNZo
Logroño Airport (LERJ)
by Gunter • 2025-10-30 17:36:45 UTC
Compared to other AENA airports in Spain, LERJ is quite good. No handling is required. There is a rather large FTO at the field, so ATC and ground staff are used to piston GA. Avgas is available by fuel truck and it arrived quickly after our arrival. Fees are as usual: around 20€ landing and 15€ parking per day below two tons. PPR is not strictly mandatory but you may want to shoot an email. Check AIP and NOTAMs for opening hours. Currently VFR operations are possible all day long but IFR operations are not possible during a long siesta break. There is a bus going to town but it runs infrequently. A taxi is about 30€. Unfortunately Logroño isn’t the most interesting city in Spain.
Los Martinez Del Puerto Airport (LEMP)
by Gunter • 2025-10-23 06:53:12 UTC
The runway is paved now. It’s long and in very good condition. We obtained PPR via ciervacodorniu@gmail.com without any issue. No fees. The club seems to have fuel in case you‘re desperate but we didn’t have to refuel. Usually there is someone present at the field until early afternoon but that’s not guaranteed. You can access the field even when none of the club members is there. They will show you how after landing. The field is located very close to LEMI, within the CTR. A flight plan is required for all movements from or to LEMP. All radio communication is done on LEMI tower frequency. On arrival you‘ll be with them anyway and you have to call them before you can depart. Contact to LEMI tower was good from the little apron. The air to air frequency published e.g. in SD is not used in practice.
Perpignan Rivesaltes Airport (LFMP)
by Gunter • 2025-10-15 09:08:34 UTC
Good and affordable AD for small GA in this corner of France. Everything can be done via AEROPS including parking PPR - very convenient! We paid 55€ for landing and three days parking with a Mooney in Oct 2025 (around 17€ was the landing, rest parking). The Avgas pump (Carte TOTAL required) is close to the threshold 31 where there is nothing else. It’s therefore a good idea to request 31 or 13 for landing. After refueling one has to taxi to the GA parking north of the main apron. From there it’s a short walk to the terminal. The code for the access gate is sent with the invoice by AEROPS. From the terminal there are buses to town and rental cars are available. Just as a fuel stop LFMU (Beziers) might be better as there are no facilities near the pump in LFMP.
Neubrandenburg Airport (EDBN)
by Gunter • 2025-09-22 18:24:31 UTC
Vast former military field where there is unfortunately not much happening. Runway is a bit bumpy but not a real problem. Friendly folks on the ground. We paid 20€ all in for landing and one night parking with a Mooney. A taxi to town or back is around 30€ . We had very friendly drivers both ways. The town was a bit underwhelming but we rate airfields here, after all.
Iraklion / Nikos Kazantzakis Airport (LGIR)
by Gunter • 2025-09-04 18:44:22 UTC
Still one of the better big airports in Greece for small GA. There is an FTO based at LGIR so ATC is used to SEPs.
We paid 128€ for handling/landing/parking (two nights) in May 2025 with a Mooney. Avgas was a bit over 3€ per liter.
As at most other Greek airports Skyserv seems to be the best handler for small GA. We had requested to refuel on arrival but that was ignored, as usual. We waited quite a while till the fueler arrived. Otherwise service was good and friendly.
Vagar Airport (EKVG)
by Gunter • 2025-09-04 08:40:37 UTC
Bucket list item for many pilots. Weather can be poor with low ceilings, year round. Wind is the biggest problem though, depending on direction. There is a rather complex wind shear reporting and assessment system. Pilots have to confirm in writing that they have read a document describing this before flying to EKVG. AIP has the details.
Fees OK. We paid around 110€ for handling, landing and one night parking in August 2025.
Hotel in easy walking distance but it was booked out when we visited. Found accommodation in the village down by the sea, half an hour on foot.
Biberach A.D.Riss Airport (EDMB)
by Gunter • 2025-09-04 08:05:02 UTC
Very friendly place with modest fees. The first 200m of 22 is privately owned and actually only usable by permission, hence the somewhat strange note in the VFR approach plate. However, in practice the whole very good runway can be used. Check their web page for current fuel prices.
Bari / Palese Airport (LIBD)
by Gunter • 2019-04-26 00:00:00 UTC
Handling mandatory - so we had quotes sent for a Mooney M20T and 4 days of parking from the two handling companies Skyservices and Delta Aero Taxi. Both responded to email immediately, but what a difference! Around €100 at Skyservices versus over €500 at Delta. We finally paid €111 at Skyservices for 5 days and received great service. Fast and reliable; he even found our pitot cover that had been blown away by the wind! We did not need AVGAS, so no info here.
