What other pilots say about LOAV

Still a very friendly team. Facilities in good shape; tie-down rings available. With N/NW wind, RWY 31 is clearly better than LOAU. By bike about 10 min to the railway station (2.7 km), then in the REX about 45 min to Vienna city center. RNP approach not really difficult, a bit of radio work, but straightforward. Plan on a procedure turn at the holding fix; ATC may also clear you for the approach from the opposite direction—don’t be surprised. A SID clearance on the ground from Wien RDR would have taken at least 15 min, so departed VFR and picked up enroute. Landing and 44 h parking (Fri–Sun) each EUR 36.50 for 1400 MTOW. Overall good, but not perfect. Fuel available, not needed.

LOAV is a friendly, well-maintained GA airfield suitable for VFR and IFR operations, with a focus on correct circuit and approach procedures due to local noise sensitivity. The approach involves multiple reporting points and may require careful preparation, especially for IFR arrivals and departures; RNP approaches are available, and special procedures must be carried aboard. ATC clearances for IFR departures can take time on the ground, so VFR departure with enroute pickup is common. Noise surcharges apply: landing during Saturday 12:30–14:30 or on Sundays/holidays in non-noise-certified aircraft incurs a 20% fee increase.

Landing fees for typical GA aircraft since 2021 range from about €20 to €40, with parking charged at roughly half the landing fee per day. Example: landing about €40, parking per day about €20. A combined landing and 44-hour parking stay can total about €40–€70 depending on timing and surcharges. Payment is usually by invoice sent after departure; fuel is self-service with credit/debit card, but each transaction is limited to €100–€120, requiring multiple transactions for larger amounts.

Facilities include tie-down points (Ösen) on paved surfaces, self-briefing terminals, a pilot shop, and maintenance services; hangar space may be available on request. The airfield is a practical base for visiting Vienna: the train station is 2–2.7 km away (7–15 minutes by bike or 20–30 minutes on foot), with direct trains to Vienna Hauptbahnhof in 30–45 minutes for about €7; taxi or Uber to the station costs around €8–€10, while direct car service to Vienna city center takes 35–45 minutes and costs about €40–€45.

Pilots should prepare for detailed arrival/departure procedures and comply strictly with circuit routes due to noise abatement requirements; deviations may be challenged by ground staff. The radio service is A/G only and provides basic information without traffic advisories. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM. LOAV offers a convenient alternative to LOWW for non-commercial GA flights into Vienna.
