What other pilots say about LFRD
you pay landing fee at the booth with the fireman. His computer system was down and he looked up the fee on some table, reviewing other reports i now wonder if he made a mistake, as the price appear to have come down…? But i entered here the price he charged me. while there is a notam for compulsory handling, this does not apply if you park on the grass (I also had confirmed this by email)
The airfield is a good stop for visitors from the UK to clear Customs, but nowadays the douanier invariably turn up so you must remember to give the required 24 hour notice (weekdays) and 48 hours (weekends and public holidays). There is a prescribed form on the website. Fuelling with an Air BP card is straightforward but to use a credit card you need to involve the firemen who are up near the grass parking. The airfield is generally pretty deserted so taxis can be a problem - well worth booking in advance. The airfield is accessible 24 hours with pilot controlled lighting and an access gate with a code.
Friendly, helpful tower; asks for EN or FR on approach. Apologized for a 4 min delay due to a medevac approach (!). Offered grass (close to the exit) or asphalt (due to landing gear).
Arriving from Schengen: just fly in, exit at the fire station hut (restroom in the terminal, no checks) -> note/photograph the code at the exit. Use the code to enter for departure, pay at the fire station hut, and go.
Landing (MTOW 1400) with 3 nights: €48. Avgas 2.69/L with BP card.
Taxi: risk of being ripped off by local taxis, if one even shows up… Outbound to St Malo €60. Return booked via https://www.taxi-st-malo.com/: €31… (Uber essentially not active—tried at length both ways).
Dinard, as a somewhat decadent seaside resort, is also worth a trip.
Transit through Landisiau (military airfield) on Sunday was no problem; probably mostly fine on weekdays as well.
Dinard (LFRD) is a straightforward airport with friendly and helpful ATC, offering both English and French on arrival. VFR and IFR operations are supported, with no compulsory handling for grass parking; compulsory handling applies to hard surface parking from May 1 to October 20 (PPR 48HR via https://cy.myhandlingsoftware.com). Customs is available with advance notice; requirements vary, so check AIP/NOTAM for specifics. For non-Schengen flights, prior notice of 24–48 hours is required for both arrival and departure.
Landing fees are generally low. Example: landing and three nights about €50; another example: landing about €40 for IFR arrival and three days’ parking; single landings have been quoted at about €30–€50. Hard surface parking in summer incurs a higher charge (quoted at €90 for <2t). Fees are paid to the firemen in their booth or hut. Payment can be by credit card or BP card.
100LL self-serve fuel is available via BP card; the firemen assist if needed, especially if the pump system is problematic. Jet A1 is supplied by AirBP truck with PPR 1 hour required. Fueling can involve walking between the pump and fire station for activation and payment.
Parking is typically on grass (P2), which is well maintained and free of potholes. No tie-downs are provided—bring your own anchors if needed. The main terminal is largely closed, but toilets remain accessible via airside entrance; there is no restaurant or café currently operating on site.
Ground transport options are limited: taxis must be pre-booked as none wait at the airport, and local taxi prices to St Malo range from about €30–€60 each way depending on provider and time of day. Uber operates intermittently and may require long waits; public transport does not serve the airport directly. Car rental desks exist but may not always be staffed.
Access to and from the airside area uses a code at the gate—note this code when exiting to ensure re-entry. All payments (fees, fuel) are handled by the firemen, who are generally helpful.
Procedures can be more involved when commercial flights operate or during peak times, with longer walks between facilities and occasional security checks. For UK or Channel Islands flights, police/customs checks occur in the terminal as required.
Contact numbers include Airport Director: +33 2 99 16 38 01; Customs: +33 2 99 46 18 20.
Dinard LFRD offers efficient GA operations with low fees, reliable fuel service, simple customs procedures with advance notice, but limited ground transport—pre-arrange taxis or car hire for onward travel.
