Civil Airfield Weissenhorn (EDNW)
by Sebastian • 2025-08-25 11:47:34 UTC
Weißenhorn Airfield (EDNW) is a relaxed and welcoming place. On summer weekends, the airfield is bustling with glider and winch operations.
Mogas and Avgas are available, though the fuel station is currently being renovated and should be operational again by the end of 2025. PPR can be requested spontaneously via radio and is handled with great flexibility. While there is no official restaurant directly at the field, you'll find a hotel and several restaurants within walking distance by the highway. A short stroll will also take you to the charming old town of Weißenhorn. The Weißenhorn-Eschach train station is also in walking distance, offering easy access to Ulm or other sourrounding cities.
The taxiway is a bit hilly, but the grass runway is in good condition, with an additional 175 meters of usable surface on each end, for a total of at least 1,000 meters. For departures from runway 08, a right turn is recommended after takeoff to avoid the village. When departing from runway 26, turn to the south before the motorway junction hill and the power lines there.

Straightforward fuel stop en route to Donegal EIDL with a stunningly beautiful but slightly turbulent approach. Very friendly tower controller who appreciates a brief PPR call beforehand and proactively arranged the fueler for us and brought our subsequent flight plan forward. You may move freely on the apron, and after fueling you can settle all fees together by credit card at the small C-office, just a short walk away. The car rental counters at the airfield are not continuously staffed, so you should call the respective city branch in advance to avoid waiting times. €15 landing fee and €2.57/l for Avgas. Happy to return next time with a longer stay.

Spectacular approach to the airfield located right on a large sandy beach, very friendly ATC despite the rush hour of simultaneously inbound airliners, and a very accommodating welcome on the ground. The portion of the apron used for parking has tie-down rings in places to secure the aircraft. You may walk to and from the aircraft, but only when escorted by an airport employee. The Enterprise rental car counter is not staffed continuously, but key pickup and return can be handled, if needed, by the attendant at the information desk, where you also pay the fees. Beautiful scenery without the usual tourist bustle and very fair value for money at the nearby hotels and restaurants. Landing fee for an AA5 €12.00 and parking €10.50 per day. NO Avgas available, but it is available just around the corner at Sligo EISG.
Airport Kerry (EIKY)
by Sebastian • 2018-06-27 00:00:00 UTC
Inquiry regarding entry from the UK was answered quickly and positively via email to KIR.Handling@kerryairport.ie. On the ground the people are very friendly, but fueling and parking procedures are cumbersome and lengthy, and each may only be conducted with ATC clearance and a marshaller. A grass parking spot would actually have been ideal for us, as there is ample area for it and there are no tie-downs on the concrete, but since the regular clientele is Gulfstreams (with golfers), even small SEPs have to park like the big ones. Any attempt to explain or request changes only prolongs the already tiring ground processes. The short distance to the terminal may only be covered in an airport vehicle.
Beautiful area, perhaps a bit too touristy; rental cars available right on the field. The Europe Hotel in Killarney, part of the Liebherr Group, was more show than substance, with poor value for money.
Landing fee for an AA5 €15 and parking per night €10. Avgas available but very expensive at €2.92/l. Before departure you can pay the fees and Avgas by credit card at the handling office and then be driven back to the aircraft.
Airport Lydd (EGMD)
by Sebastian • 2018-06-27 00:00:00 UTC
All information as previously described is still correct. Ideal UK entry/exit and fuel stop. Short walking distances and quick turnaround. About €25 landing fee for an AA5 and €1.62/l duty-free Avgas due to a direct departure from the UK. Forms for the tax exemption are available there and can be completed on the spot.
Airport Newquay (EGHQ)

PPR request in advance via the Aeroclub’s website http://www.flynqy.co.uk/onlineppr/. On approach, ATC, with typically English courtesy, vectored us between inbound airline traffic, and after landing it was self-parking on the Aeroclub’s GA parking area with ample tie-downs. From there, a short walk (only with a hi-vis vest, as is customary in the UK) to the Aeroclub, where all fees are paid and any desired fuel uplift can be requested. Rental cars from Hertz and Europcar are just around the corner in the terminal. As already mentioned, an ideal airport for exploring Cornwall. Landing fee for an AA5 just under €30, parking about €10 per night, and Avgas at €2.16/l.
Civil Airfield Waterford (EIWF)
by Sebastian • 2018-06-27 00:00:00 UTC
Straightforward stop for UK entry/exit and Avgas refueling. PPR for this via email to operations@waterfordairport.net. Quick refuel and then briefly into the terminal to pay by card at the information desk. Apart from some aero club flying, the field feels deserted. Rental car counter available, but only staffed by prior arrangement with the branch in town. €15 landing fee for an AA5 and duty-free €2.05/l for Avgas since we were departing to the UK.
International Airport Bratislava M. R. Stefanik (LZIB)

Relaxed VFR approach via the published VFR arrival points below 2,000 ft. Parking on Apron C, where handling and the Avgas truck were already waiting. Concrete tie-down bollards are brought by forklift as needed. Swift processing and relaxed security in the separate GA terminal. Taxi into the city (well worth seeing) about €20–25. For an AA5: €31.46 landing fees €33.12 parking for 2 nights €13.20 concrete tie-downs €45.60 handling Avgas was €2.56 per liter.

Approach and traffic pattern as described on the website. Helpful flight information officer on the ground, easy to understand in English. After landing, it’s a relatively long taxi via Taxiway Golf to the eastern side of the airfield. There we were received immediately, refueled, and then parked. Payment by credit card. VFR flight plan or, if applicable, IFR pickup is coordinated by the information office. Taxi into the city about 30 minutes and 20 €—arrived after 15 minutes and can be prearranged via the tower. For an AA5, landing and 2 nights parking = 32 euros. Avgas at 3.27 per liter.
Airport Calvi Sainte Catherine (LFKC)
by Sebastian • 2017-06-17 00:00:00 UTC
Plan ahead and watch for PPR parking NOTAMs. Parking confirmation arrived by email within 10 minutes. After a friendly reception there was initially no fuel, as the fuel truck driver was on his well-earned lunch break until 1400. Tying down was virtually impossible in the sandy ground, as no ground anchors would hold. On departure, the service orientation at the GAT was unfortunately lacking, and we had to beg a bit for AVGAS. 56 euros for 2 nights of parking with an AA5B. Rental car available on the field, and a recommendation for Villas Mandarine in Calvi as accommodation.
Airport Annecy Meythet (LFLP)
by Sebastian • 2017-06-17 00:00:00 UTC
Uncomplicated straight-in approach and quick refueling at the fuel station using a BP Carnet. Landing fee for an AA5B was only 12 euros. The staff even interrupted their lunch break (in France!) so we could pay and be on our way. For a quick fuel stop, the better alternative to Chambery.
International Airport Muenster/Osnabrueck (EDDG)
by Sebastian • 2017-03-16 00:00:00 UTC
IFR with an AA5 plus parking for 1 night came to just under 22 EUR. Very, very friendly and accommodating staff. You can have a rental car delivered to the GAT and return it there as well. Nice lounge with coffee and a briefing room available in the GAT.
International Airport Stuttgart (EDDS)
by Sebastian • 2015-09-15 00:00:00 UTC
Approach was very relaxed with a dedicated tower frequency for VFR traffic and we were expertly sequenced between the heavies. On the ground we were greeted courteously and then driven to the terminal at record speed, as we were heading to the trade fair. On the way back we could call the GAT and were picked up at the terminal to save the 30-minute walk. Invoice processing was a bit sluggish (the aircraft had to be created in the system) and the fees were, as expected, on the higher side. €13.50 for landing and another €13.50 for takeoff. Pax cost €5.23 inbound and another €5.23 outbound. Plus a €1.44 security fee. Then €7.87 parking fee for one day (free under 1 hour) and a €22.50 apron charge. All amounts were net prices for an AA5 with MTOW 1089 kg. The total on the invoice was €82.43 gross. On departure, ATC again did everything possible to fit VFR arrivals and departures between the IFR traffic.
Civil Airfield Vejro (EKVO)
by Sebastian • 2015-09-12 00:00:00 UTC
I can only agree with the previous reports—the facilities on the island are at a 5-star level, but the atmosphere is not jet-set glitz; it’s characterized by a friendly, very laid-back vibe. We spent 2 nights in the hotel and used the rest of the time to enjoy the island and the excellent food. The runway was more than sufficient for our AA5B, and the bicycles were already waiting for us after landing. The drainage for the planned runway reorientation appears to be progressing well. Even after rain all night, the runway and parking areas were dry and firm in the morning.
The only downside is the pricing which, as mentioned, is quite steep—so the 50 EUR landing fee is barely worth mentioning. You have to view the value for money in relation to the significant investments and the island’s remoteness.
Airport Inverness (EGPE)

PPR straightforward and friendly by phone. After vacating the runway, parking via Follow-Me, and shortly afterward Avgas from the truck for €3.22 per litre. After that you’re left on the apron and must follow the “Landing Fees” sign. There you’ll find a room with a letterbox and forms to fill out. You have to add VAT yourself to the 20 GBP landing fee and 8 GBP per night parking fee, then drop cash or a form with your credit card details into the letterbox. Next door the handling agent is waiting, but they won’t provide any information unless you pay for handling. Then follow the green line on the apron surface and you arrive at Gate 1, which serves as the GA entrance and exit. Be sure to have your license and a hi-vis vest with you to get back to the aircraft! Then about 10–15 minutes by taxi into town—rental cars are also available on the field. Overall OK—you can tell the field is geared more toward low-cost carriers.
Civil Airfield Carlisle (EGNC)
by Sebastian • 2015-06-25 00:00:00 UTC
Obtained PPR by phone and were advised of ATC’s unpublished lunch break between 1200 and 1300 local. So don’t be surprised if no one answers. After vacating the runway, received Avgas directly from the fuel trailer at €2.41 per liter. Very friendly staff in the GAT, happy to help. Europcar provides airport pickup/dropoff; otherwise the airport is a good 20 minutes by taxi from the city. Used the field as a base to explore the Lake District. 16GPB for landing and 16GPB per night for parking for an AA5. For the IFR departure to Dundee, the very friendly ATC supported us with weather and PIREPs. Overall, a well-located airport - also highly recommended as a pure fuel stop.
Airport Stornoway (EGPO)
by Sebastian • 2015-06-25 00:00:00 UTC
PPR required in advance by phone. After vacating, escorted by Follow-Me to the parking position and immediately refueled with Avgas at €3.48 per liter. Landing fees were 17 GPB, payable at the tower. On the way there, observe the traffic light indicating whether you may cross the taxiway. Otherwise, an uncomplicated and friendly fuel stop.
Civil Airfield Oban (EGEO)
by Sebastian • 2015-06-25 00:00:00 UTC
Nothing to add to the previous reports. Avgas was €3.07. No parking fee, landing fee 18 GBP. Recommended hotel and restaurant 5 minutes’ walk away is the Lochnell Arms. There are bicycles you can borrow free of charge at the airfield.
Airport Cardiff (EGFF)
by Sebastian • 2015-06-25 00:00:00 UTC
No PPR required, but the Aero Club appreciates a call. Complex airspace with VFR arrival and departure routes that you should review beforehand, as ATC expects you to be familiar with them. After vacating, you need to find your own parking spot south of the runway at the Aero Club. Avgas is available there for 2.61€ and you also pay the landing fee there—20 GPB for an AA5. The Aero Club members tended (perhaps due to the associated flight school operation) toward somewhat excessive refresher training on local procedures. A restaurant is also located right next to the Aero Club. We used the airport to depart the UK for Jersey without any issues. Overall, relatively GA-friendly for its size.
Airport Dundee (EGPN)
by Sebastian • 2015-06-25 00:00:00 UTC
PPR straightforward and friendly by phone. Arrival IFR with ILS to runway 09 — flew the full procedure, since the approach is in uncontrolled airspace. After vacating and taxiing to the flight school, we were warmly welcomed and refueled at €3.20 per liter. Landing fee was 14GPB and parking per night 15GBP for an AA5. Entry and exit were straightforward via the flight school and NO hi-vis vest requirement on the field. Europcar offers rental car pickup and drop-off directly at the airport. We used the airport as an alternative to Edinburgh — about a 1-hour drive. Overall, excellent and very GA-friendly airfield.
Airport Southend (EGMC)
by Sebastian • 2015-06-25 00:00:00 UTC
Arrival IFR from EDDR. After the handover to London Radar over the English Channel, direct Dover and then direct to Southend—kept within CAS at FL80 throughout. After shutdown on the apron, remember a hi-vis vest, then waited about 45 minutes for the fuel truck because the based Easyjet had a turnaround—€2.39 per liter for Avgas. Own entry and exit via the GAT in the former terminal building. Recommended Holiday Inn, and a train station to London (50 minutes) is at most a 5-minute walk away. Landing fee 24 GPB and parking 15 GPB per night for an AA5. Overall a recommended airport for London—you just need a bit of patience when the low-cost carriers come in.
Airport Sumburgh (EGPB)
by Sebastian • 2015-06-25 00:00:00 UTC
Due to marginal weather, flew to Sumburgh instead of Lerwick to have an IFR approach available if needed. Ideal for practicing crosswind landings. After shutdown, please put on a hi-vis vest and walk toward the terminal to pay the landing fee (20 GBP). The fuel truck arrived shortly afterward and sold us Avgas for 2.93 €. The airport is located well outside, in the south. Overall recommended, with friendly ATC and accommodating ground staff.
Airport Granada (LEGR)
by Sebastian • 2015-03-22 00:00:00 UTC
Quiet airfield in great scenery. While vacating the runway, request directly with the Tower to get Avgas promptly from the fuel truck at 2.69€ per liter. Pay the airport fees on the 1st floor of the terminal—landing only 23€, but mandatory handling for Non-Schengen departures that slows you down, is completely unnecessary, and costs 50€. Fees, fueling, and handling payable by credit card. Entry and exit as well as customs and exit formalities via a separate checkpoint at the Guardia Civil. For the trip to Marrokko probably still the cheapest airport.
Airport Biarritz Pays Basque (LFBZ)
by Sebastian • 2015-03-22 00:00:00 UTC
Ideal GA airfield. Avgas costs €1.73 per liter, and I paid €23 in fees for 1 night plus landing; both payable by credit card. Entry and exit via a separate gate with relaxed security.
International Airport Fes Saïss (GMFF)
by Sebastian • 2015-03-22 00:00:00 UTC
On arrival from Spain, a crowd of tinsel-draped people was already waiting for us for immigration, customs, and the aircraft document check. Everyone involved was very friendly and helpful. Fees for 2 nights plus landing were just under €25—payable by credit card. The Avgas truck arrived promptly after landing and was payable only in euros—about €2.50 per liter. For departure, simply fill out the usual exit card and walk confidently to Security—then it takes about 20 minutes until everyone agrees that, in the end, you may walk directly onto the apron. On the way to the aircraft, a quick stop at C for a flight plan check and to pay fees. Overall, you should allow about 1 hour from the aircraft to the terminal or vice versa.
International Airport Marrakech / Ménara (GMMX)
by Sebastian • 2015-03-22 00:00:00 UTC
After vacating, ask immediately for Avgas and for transport to the terminal; otherwise you’ll face a long wait or a long walk. Avgas was promptly provided for €2.67 per liter, payable in euros. At immigration, it’s best to go straight to something official-looking; after a brief document check for “avion privee,” you can bypass the tourist queues.
For departure we had to go to Gate 9 (Domestic Departures) and, after about 30 minutes of document and security checks, were allowed onto the apron. Then to C to pay about €30 by credit card for landing and 2 nights parking.
Allow at least 1 hour from the aircraft to the terminal and vice versa. Everyone involved was polite and helpful.
International Airport A Coruña (LECO)
by Sebastian • 2015-03-22 00:00:00 UTC
Overnight parking only with prior approval — reply by email within 12 hours in our case. Avgas cash only at €2.95 per liter. Pay fees on the first floor of the C-office — just under €40 for 1 night plus landing — cash only as well. No handling required. Entry and exit via a separate gate below the control tower. Taxi to the beach approx. €25.
Airport Sevilla/San Pablo (LEZL)
by Sebastian • 2015-03-22 00:00:00 UTC
Since Grenada was not an option due to weather, coming from Marokko we had to enter in Sevilla. Handling for non-Schengen arrival is mandatory – cost €150. The required airport slot and transmission of passport data were also organized by Swissair. Avgas at €2.88 per liter and airport fees for 1 night about €40 – both payable by credit card. Entry and exit via a separate security checkpoint. Very beautiful city – about €25 by taxi.
