What other pilots say about EGPN

PPR straightforward and friendly by phone. Arrival IFR with ILS to runway 09 — flew the full procedure, since the approach is in uncontrolled airspace. After vacating and taxiing to the flight school, we were warmly welcomed and refueled at €3.20 per liter. Landing fee was 14GPB and parking per night 15GBP for an AA5. Entry and exit were straightforward via the flight school and NO hi-vis vest requirement on the field. Europcar offers rental car pickup and drop-off directly at the airport. We used the airport as an alternative to Edinburgh — about a 1-hour drive. Overall, excellent and very GA-friendly airfield.

Dundee Airport is considered very GA-friendly, with efficient and welcoming staff. PPR is required and can be arranged quickly via email; see the airport website or use InfoDundee@hial.co.uk. Instrument approaches are available, including RNP and ILS, though some procedures are limited to approaches from the west due to military activity to the east; extra care is needed because of nearby high ground. IFR arrivals and departures are straightforward, and controllers accommodate non-local accents.

Landing fees vary: Example: landing about £30. Parking on grass is available, but equipment for tie-downs is basic; bringing your own is recommended. Example: parking about £40 per night on grass. Navigation fees may apply for IFR operations; Example: navigation fee about £20. Avgas is available via the local flying school or Worldfuel fuel release, with quick service reported.

Ground transport options include taxis (about £20–£30 to city or station), a short taxi ride to Dundee railway station (about 5 minutes), and car hire through Arnold Clark with shuttle pickup from the GA terminal. The train to Edinburgh takes about an hour, and Dundee itself offers attractions worth visiting.

Immigration procedures are handled on arrival in the C-Office by phone after submitting a GAR form online; customs clearance is described as relaxed and efficient. No hangarage is reported, only grass parking. Facilities include a briefing room and easy access to rental cars; high-visibility vests are required airside.

Overall, Dundee Airport provides a practical and friendly alternative for GA pilots visiting eastern Scotland or Edinburgh, with manageable fees and good support for both VFR and IFR operations.
