Pilot Comments for EGMD
Brice
Very helpful ATC. commonly used for instrument approach practice, they charge 28GBP per approach, you need to PPR ahead of time for a training block time
Sebastian
All information as previously described is still correct. Ideal UK entry/exit and fuel stop. Short walking distances and quick turnaround. About €25 landing fee for an AA5 and €1.62/l duty-free Avgas due to a direct departure from the UK. Forms for the tax exemption are available there and can be completed on the spot.

Lydd (EGMD) is a popular stop for both domestic and international general aviation, offering professional ATC and ground services. IFR and VFR operations are supported, with a range of instrument approaches available; PPR is required for instrument training blocks, and approach slots may be limited due to training activity. Example: instrument approach fee about £20–£30 per approach. Landing fees typically range from £24 to £46, with some fees including separate charges for instrument approaches.
Fuel service is efficient, with a fuel truck coming directly to the aircraft and tax-free fuel available for outbound international flights; refueling can be arranged by radio after landing. The airport provides a lounge with drinks and snacks, WiFi, and a bistro or café (though opening times may vary), as well as a small shop. Short turnaround times are possible, often around 30 minutes.
Customs and immigration procedures are straightforward for international arrivals and departures. The airport is considered suitable as an entry or exit point for the UK, with helpful staff and quick processing. The surrounding area offers opportunities for cycling or driving excursions.
