What other pilots say about EGNC
Obtained PPR by phone and were advised of ATC’s unpublished lunch break between 1200 and 1300 local. So don’t be surprised if no one answers. After vacating the runway, received Avgas directly from the fuel trailer at €2.41 per liter. Very friendly staff in the GAT, happy to help. Europcar provides airport pickup/dropoff; otherwise the airport is a good 20 minutes by taxi from the city. Used the field as a base to explore the Lake District. 16GPB for landing and 16GPB per night for parking for an AA5. For the IFR departure to Dundee, the very friendly ATC supported us with weather and PIREPs. Overall, a well-located airport - also highly recommended as a pure fuel stop.
Carlisle Airport (EGNC) welcomes general aviation and is noted for friendly, helpful staff and a positive attitude toward GA traffic. No PPR or strict adherence to published opening hours is generally required, but outside staffed hours, access to the terminal is restricted; the south side is fully secured, while the north side may offer 24-hour access for those able to navigate fences. There are currently no scheduled commercial flights, and the terminal serves GA exclusively. IFR approaches and ATC availability can be limited due to staffing or breaks; holding may be required if ATC is unavailable, and instrument approach procedures should be checked in advance. Two runways are available, with the main runway resurfaced and re-designated as 06/24.
Facilities include a modern terminal with pilot amenities and access to sanitary facilities; camping on site has been permitted during events. The Solway Aviation Museum is located on the field and recommended for visitors. Fuel (Avgas) is available from a tanker. Car hire is possible via local offices of Avis (+44 8445 441539) or Europcar with airport pickup/dropoff; taxis to Carlisle city take about 20 minutes.
Landing fees vary by weight and service, with examples ranging from about £12 for a 1100 kg aircraft up to about £40 including VAT for larger types. Example: landing fee about £40.
No customs or border control services are currently offered. The airport provides convenient access for exploring the Lake District or as a technical stop for fuel. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
