Pilot Comments for EGPO
Sebastian
PPR required in advance by phone. After vacating, escorted by Follow-Me to the parking position and immediately refueled with Avgas at €3.48 per liter. Landing fees were 17 GPB, payable at the tower. On the way there, observe the traffic light indicating whether you may cross the taxiway. Otherwise, an uncomplicated and friendly fuel stop.

PPR is compulsory and arranged with the tower by submitting a form via email. Only non-precision approaches (LOC/DME) are published; there are no 3D approaches. ATC provides a procedural, non-radar service and is described as pleasant and helpful, with little traffic. The main runway is large and easy to use. Payment for landing and parking is made by card via phone to ATC before departure.
Landing and parking fees for a typical stay are low to moderate. Example: landing and three days parking about £60. Fees may be halved if arriving VFR rather than IFR; cancelling IFR before arrival can reduce charges. No handling agent is required for GA.
Avgas and Jet A1 are available, but fuel prices are high compared to much of the UK. Avgas is provided by AirBP; their hours may not match airport opening times, so advance coordination is recommended. Fuel can be delivered directly to the aircraft after parking.
A café operates in the terminal. Car hire is available from Hebrides Car Hire, which has a desk in the terminal and a portacabin in the car park; a midsize car costs about £140 for three days with a high insurance excess, and return requires refuelling at a petrol station five minutes away. Taxis and buses connect to town, where there are several hotel options.
Access between GA parking and the terminal requires passing through an exit gate in the fence; re-entry needs assistance from staff at the information desk or security escort from the terminal to the aircraft or tower for payment. High-visibility jackets are required on the apron.
The airport offers scenic approaches over sand and sea, with friendly staff and straightforward procedures for non-commercial GA flights under 2 t MTOW. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
