What other pilots say about LOWL
Flew into Linz today for IR training. As always, from Radar to Tower to the GAT crew, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Multiple training approaches possible without prior notification. Since most procedures are on the RWY centerline, ATC appreciates flexibility and willingness to accept vectors so the centerline isn’t blocked for too long. Avgas self-service on the apron (Mastercard/Visa). Pulling the aircraft by hand 20 m to the fuel station is not permitted; a FollowMe must lead in front, even with the engine off. Overall, great service, normal fees, just as you’d expect.
Linz (LOWL) is a friendly, efficient airport suitable for general aviation, with uncomplicated IFR and VFR procedures and helpful ATC. Both approach and landing fees are charged, and for IFR arrivals, advance completion of a GA form online or by phone is recommended. Customs is available on site with straightforward procedures for both EU and non-EU flights.
Fees for landing, approach, and parking typically range from about €50 to €100 for short stays with single-engine aircraft, depending on duration and services. Example: landing, IFR approach, and two nights’ parking about €60. Additional surcharges may apply: one report notes a follow-up invoice of about €130 for passenger and security charges after an initial fee of about €200. For training flights, each approach is charged separately; discounts apply only to approved training organizations.
AVGAS is available via self-service with credit card payment. Jet A1 requires advance ordering of a release number (at least one hour ahead) by email to dispatch@360jetfuel.com; without this, fueling is delayed. Confirm all Jet A1 costs in writing before fueling to avoid unexpected surcharges. Payment issues have occurred in the past; credit card acceptance has varied—check current arrangements before arrival.
The GA terminal (GAT) is adjacent to the main terminal with short walking distances; no shuttle needed for most movements. Facilities include a comfortable GA lounge with free WiFi and access to restaurants in the main terminal. Hangarage is available but may be limited for transient aircraft.
Ground transport options include a bus from directly in front of the terminal to Linz city center every 15 minutes; tickets are purchased on board. Taxis cost around €30–€35 to the city center. Car rental is available at the airport.
Overall, Linz offers professional service, short turnaround times, and easy access to town, making it well-suited for non-commercial GA flights.
