Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne (LFLC) is a large regional airport with relatively low traffic and both commercial and general aviation operations. IFR and VFR procedures are straightforward, with radar vectors available for instrument approaches and generally accommodating ATC. Handling is typically mandatory and provided by Vinci Airports, though arrangements via local aeroclubs may be possible. Movement on the apron is usually restricted; walking to the terminal is permitted only for crew wearing high-visibility vests, while passengers must use an airport minibus or bus service. At times, especially on weekends, GA terminal staff may be absent and invoices are sent by post, sometimes with a surcharge.
Landing fees for non-commercial GA are moderate, with examples ranging from about €20 to €40 for short stays or overnight parking. Example: landing and parking about €40. Fees often include access to waiting areas with water, coffee, and basic amenities. Payment is frequently handled after departure via invoice rather than on-site.
Fuel (Avgas and Jet A1) is available via self-service pumps or fuel trucks; payment by Total card or credit card is possible, though credit card use at the pump may require advance notice for staff assistance. Fueling is generally quick, but isolated delays have occurred. Several car hire agencies operate at the airport, and taxis to the city center cost around €30. Uber service is also available.
Facilities include a business/GA terminal with free WiFi, refreshments, toilets, and basic briefing options; some vending machines are present but no full-service restaurant is consistently reported on-field. A basic hotel exists on the airfield, with a wide range of accommodation in the nearby city.
Customs/immigration services are available despite AIP entries sometimes stating "Customs NIL"; police handle border formalities during their published hours (see AIP). Direct flights to/from Switzerland are permitted with police clearance.
Approaches are uncomplicated but terrain awareness is important due to surrounding hills and glider/paraglider activity near Puy de Dôme. Occasional turbulence and wind shear may occur on approach; see AIP/NOTAM for cautions. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
LFLC offers efficient handling for GA pilots seeking a convenient stopover or entry point into central France.
