What other pilots say about GMMX
After vacating, ask immediately for Avgas and for transport to the terminal; otherwise you’ll face a long wait or a long walk. Avgas was promptly provided for €2.67 per liter, payable in euros. At immigration, it’s best to go straight to something official-looking; after a brief document check for “avion privee,” you can bypass the tourist queues.
For departure we had to go to Gate 9 (Domestic Departures) and, after about 30 minutes of document and security checks, were allowed onto the apron. Then to C to pay about €30 by credit card for landing and 2 nights parking.
Allow at least 1 hour from the aircraft to the terminal and vice versa. Everyone involved was polite and helpful.
Handling is mandatory at GMMX, typically provided by companies such as Jetex or Execujet. Handling fees are high, with examples ranging from about €70 to €700 depending on negotiation and provider. Some reports mention that negotiating fees in advance can be worthwhile. The GA apron is distant from the terminal, and walking with luggage may be required if handling is not arranged, though airport staff can provide transport upon request via radio or tower call. The aeroclub area offers customs and immigration services but requires advance permission and is controlled by the military.
Fuel (avgas) is available but payment is cash-only in local currency (MAD), sometimes requiring proof of currency exchange or an ATM slip; euros are generally accepted, but change may be treated as a tip. Fuel trucks may experience delays, and Shell card holders may have an easier time refueling. Refueling can be requested by radio.
ATC and ground staff are described as professional and helpful. Approaches are straightforward, with radar vectors available for ILS. Bureaucracy can be significant, with multiple document checks and forms required for each person on board; a GENDEC form printed in duplicate is recommended. Immigration stamps must be obtained in the terminal, and passport control occurs both airside and landside.
Facilities include a posh GA terminal/lounge, parking with tiedowns at the edge of the GA apron, and on-field restaurants, bars, ATMs, car hire, kiosks, and souvenir shops. Transport to the city by taxi costs around 100 MAD (~€10), though taxi fares may require negotiation.
Customs and immigration are available on arrival; procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM. GMMX is suitable for non-commercial general aviation flights but expect high handling costs and administrative complexity.
