General aviation is accepted at LTFJ, but handling by an agent is mandatory for all operations. Overflight and entry into Turkey require advance CAA permission, which handling agents such as Gözen Air Service (info@gozenair.com) can arrange. The airport is located on the Asian side of Istanbul and is considered the main GA option for the city, with good ATC and scenic approaches, though airspace is busy and radio contact may occur late on arrival.
Fees are high for general aviation. Example: total charges for a short stay can be about €400. Handling, landing, parking, approach, follow-me, ramp, crew transport, and other surcharges are common; parking per day is relatively low compared to other fees. Fuel (100LL) is available from the aeroclub with cash payment in euros or dollars; prices are described as very expensive.
Security procedures can be time-consuming and sometimes inefficient; expect delays when dealing with security staff and when settling invoices. For departures, use the dedicated Gözen departure area to avoid confusion in the main terminal.
The airport offers a large GA apron but limited visible support staff without prior arrangement. Transport to Istanbul city center by taxi takes about one hour and costs around €50. The airport is close to major highways and shopping centers.
Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
