What other pilots say about LKCM
Medlanky has a lot of gliding, and due to LDG on 34 and TO on 16 you should call early and report positions continuously. Namest military airfield usually allows transit (at least Sat/Sun). Because of the Turany CTR it’s basically a tight turn from downwind to the threshold. Since the runway is apparently poorer in the first third, that just about works. There’s no stabilized final—more of a turn-to-land. After rollout it’s noticeably uphill to parking and exit. Runway and taxiway condition overall OK. Takeoff looks intimidating with forest in the departure path, but the slope helps a lot and you have to promptly initiate a pronounced right turn after T/O anyway. Footpath or bike to the tram into Brno. Restaurant on the field. Friendly club and day-trip atmosphere at the field.
Glider activity is significant, with landings typically on runway 34 (uphill) and takeoffs on 16 (downhill); early position calls are expected, and a prompt right turn after takeoff is required due to nearby terrain and airspace constraints. The first third of the runway is rougher, with a visible bump on approach; landing beyond this improves surface quality, and overall runway and taxiway condition is acceptable. Parking involves an uphill walk after vacating the runway.
AVGAS and MOGAS are available with prior coordination. Hangar space can be arranged in advance. There is a restaurant with a beer garden on site, contributing to a friendly club atmosphere.
Access to Brno city center is possible by taxi (about €20, 15–30 minutes depending on traffic), by foot or bicycle to the tram, or by walking 1.5 km to reach a public bus stop. Taxis can be ordered from the on-field restaurant.
The airfield lies close to Brno’s controlled airspace, requiring tight circuit patterns and communication; stabilized approaches are challenging due to terrain and airspace restrictions. Occasional pedestrians may be present on the runway; low passes are advised for awareness. Military traffic at nearby Namest may permit overflight on weekends.
LKCM offers a welcoming environment for general aviation pilots seeking proximity to Brno, with practical ground access options and essential services available when arranged in advance.
