Lorient (LFRH) operates as a military airfield with a civilian terminal. PPR is required for Civil IFR and all military flights, while Civil VFR requirements are unclear; in practice, PPR is routinely requested via ban_lannbihoue.cla@marine.defense.gouv.fr and is generally granted without difficulty. Customs requires a separate email notification. Procedures are straightforward, but the runway has cables at both ends; taxiing over them is permitted, but caution is advised. After landing, aircraft are expected to call clear of the runway, stop, and then switch to Ground frequency. The main civilian taxiway A is obscured from the tower as it passes through wooded areas.
The small terminal hosts about five car hire companies. The brasserie may not always be open. Parking on the civilian apron can be limited, particularly during busy periods; the local aeroclub (http://www.aeroclub-region-lorient.com/) offers additional parking options inside its compound when space is unavailable on the main apron.
Avgas availability is unreliable and often unavailable for visitors; local club fuel pumps are visible but not accessible to non-members. Refueling may require a flight to nearby airfields such as Vannes or Belle-Île.
Example: landing and five-hour stop fee about €30.
Customs arrangements require advance notice by email. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
