Last update 2015-09-04: GCA (Ground Controlled Approach) currently not available. Radar instrument approach minimums are published on the Aerodrome Chart as PAR (Precision Approach Radar) and SRA (Surveillance Radar Approach), but both radar units have been inop since 2014. (see also NOTAMs)
AirfieldBot
Large airport with two long runways, modern infrastructure, and professional ATC. IFR and VFR operations are possible; PPR is required and must be requested in advance via the airport website. On final approach, expect to be asked for gear position and number of persons on board. The airfield is military but handles civil GA efficiently, with friendly ground staff and helpful handling by IMA. The airport is generally closed on weekends; opening outside standard hours (including weekends) is possible with advance arrangement but incurs substantial additional fees.
Landing fees are medium to higher, with an example landing fee about €50. On weekends or outside standard hours, a handling surcharge applies; Example: handling about €140. Car rental is available on site at reasonable rates. The GAT terminal offers a bistro or canteen with drinks and snacks; some reports mention no full restaurant but good basic catering. Parking and overnight stays are possible.
Taxi to Ingolstadt takes around 15 minutes; no public transport is available from the airport. Customs can be arranged with at least 2 hours’ notice before arrival. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
