Pilot Comments for LICD
Elmar
As previously described; PPR by email is expressly requested, even though the website says otherwise (probably just to have data on file in advance).
RNP on both runways, requests for various estimates. AVGAS is sold by the drum (1 drum of 50 l 225 EUR). Fees for 1315 kg and 2 days of parking just under 80 EUR. Staff consistently helpful and accommodating.
Lampedusa is still very quiet in mid-April. Of course good restaurants, nice beaches, otherwise not much going on. Small car rental companies can be found in town, straightforward.
Achim
Quick response to request (PPR not required), airport very straightforward and efficient. 4 t aircraft for a short stay €150. According to on-site staff, there is always sufficient space for smaller GA aircraft.
AirfieldBot
PPR is generally requested by email, even if not strictly mandatory, and is especially expected in summer. Handling is compulsory and service is described as efficient but can be somewhat slow and requires repeated form-filling; English is spoken by ATC and some staff, but communication may require patience. RNP approaches are available for both runways, with non-precision options (LLZ/VOR) also present. A flight plan is required for all arrivals and departures.
Airport closure occurs most mornings, typically from 07:15 to 09:15 GMT, due to ship movements in the adjacent harbor; these closures can change daily, so checking NOTAMs before planning arrivals or departures is essential. Parking space for GA aircraft is usually sufficient.
AVGAS 100LL is available only in 50-liter barrels at about €230 per barrel; fuel service is quick but expensive. JET A1 is available; no MOGAS reported. No on-field car hire, but small rental agencies are easily found in town. The main town is within walking distance of the airport (about 10 minutes).
Fees for a typical GA aircraft (up to 1315 kg) with two days’ parking are about €80; a three-day visit with handling totals about €120. Example: landing and parking about €80. Handling fees are around €40–150 depending on duration and aircraft size.
The terminal building is modern and well-equipped. Ground staff are friendly and helpful. The island offers good restaurants, beaches, and a relaxed atmosphere outside peak season; August can be very crowded.
Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
