Quimper (LFRQ) is generally friendly and suitable for non-commercial general aviation, with straightforward VFR and IFR procedures including ILS approaches and minimal delays for IFR clearances. The main runway is 28/10, with 04/22 used rarely; 04/22 may be less well maintained. Noise abatement requires avoiding the town—VFR arrivals should use reporting points as per the SIA chart. The field is usually quiet, with little traffic, and no security checks for GA, but pilots must carry their license and aircraft documents as ramp checks by the gendarmerie can occur.
Landing fees are low to moderate. Example: landing and six days of asphalt parking about €70; another example: landing and three nights parking about €20. Parking is available on both asphalt (sometimes restricted) and grass, with tie-downs via sandbags provided by the fire service on request. Parking fees are charged hourly day and night, which can add up for longer stays.
AVGAS is available via BP card at a self-serve pump; fuel can also be dispensed by staff when present. Fuel access may be limited during scheduled airline operations or if no commercial flights are present; check airport website for times.
There is no direct public transport to Quimper airport. The city is about 10 km away—downhill by bicycle or a 4 km walk to the nearest bus stop for onward travel. Taxis are easy to call, but car hire is strongly recommended for local mobility; rental desks (Avis, Hertz, Europcar) have limited hours, so advance booking is advised. Out-of-hours key collection can be arranged at the Air France counter.
Customs are available H24 with prior notice (typically 12–24 hours); procedures may require notification by fax or email as listed in the AIP/SIA website. Customs presence is infrequent but possible; see AIP/NOTAM for current requirements.
Facilities are basic with minimal infrastructure for GA, but access to the terminal and apron is straightforward via coded gates near the tower. The airport serves as a practical base for exploring Brittany, with Quimper offering scenic attractions and good dining options.
