What other pilots say about LFOP
Largely unused airport, even though Rouen is the capital of Normandy; regional airports in France are practically no longer needed. ATS NIL (NOTAM), so FR-only (French only). Nonetheless, IFR arrivals are still in principle possible. You may not park directly in front of the terminal; use Apron A. 100LL and Jet are available at a WFS self-service pump (credit card). Then walk to the terminal and leave your details there for billing. Terminal is dead; the restaurant has been closed. There is a bus to the city (except Sundays); the stop is on the main road just under 1 km away ("Boos Gendarmerie," line 13). We used UBER; book early, as it usually comes from town and takes about 15 minutes. Costs about €30. The old town is only partially attractive and worth seeing, but there is quite a bit of old half-timbering. And of course the cathedral, which is impressive for its sheer size alone.
Used it as a stop to clear custom. You need to give notice, the airport operation took care of it. They were ultra friendly. Because I am French, they told me border police wouldn't come. Did full stop, walked by the terminal, confirmed with ops and left...
Rouen (LFOP) offers straightforward VFR and IFR operations with ILS and RNP approaches available. Traffic is generally light, and ATC communicates well in English and French. IFR arrivals and departures are uncomplicated, with flexibility on approach direction when traffic permits. No PPR or slot requirement is mentioned for GA, but customs clearance requires advance notice; airport operations handle arrangements, and procedures vary—see AIP/NOTAM.
AVGAS is available via WFS self-service pumps accepting major cards and fuel carnets. Jet-A1 is also available. Parking for GA is on Apron A, with no tie-downs; Apron B is reserved for commercial aircraft but remains mostly unused. Hard stand parking is adjacent to the terminal, but payment must be settled by invoice—on-site payment is no longer possible. The terminal is largely inactive, and the previously well-regarded restaurant (Otrechoze) has closed.
No car rental services are currently available at the airport. Taxis to Rouen cost about €30–€50; UBER may be less expensive. The city center is some distance from the airport; walking to the nearest bus stop (Boos Gendarmerie) takes about 15 minutes, with bus service except on Sundays.
Landing fees for GA are low to medium; Example: landing fee about €20. Handling charges are not typically required for small GA aircraft.
The airport environment is calm and friendly, with efficient fuel service and helpful staff in the operations office. No notable safety or procedural issues are reported for arrivals or departures. For customs clearance, advance notice is required; procedures may differ depending on nationality and flight profile.
Rouen LFOP provides an uncomplicated experience for non-commercial GA pilots seeking a quiet airfield near a historic city, though ground transport options are limited and on-field amenities are minimal.
