Chateau Arnoux Saint Auban Airport (LFMX)

LFMX is primarily a gliding center with significant glider and towplane activity, including many international guests. Motor aircraft are permitted but should exercise caution due to undefined landing areas and busy glider operations; the entire field may be used for landing, with several short asphalt strips (longest about 400 meters) mainly reserved for tow operations. Radio communication may be difficult to understand, and English is occasionally available. The runway surface is generally acceptable without major holes, though not comparable to a well-maintained grass strip. No landing fees. Parking is informal and can be done almost anywhere, but there is little ground support or guidance for visiting pilots. Simple accommodation for glider pilots is available on site, with additional options in nearby Chateau-Arnoux, where bicycles can be rented. The airfield offers scenic approaches and access to local attractions such as Les Mées rock formations and the Alpes de Haute Provence.
