Carcassonne (LFMK) is well suited for general aviation, offering both VFR and IFR procedures, including ILS on runway 10. The airport is controlled, with English-speaking ATC and generally friendly, pragmatic staff. IFR departures are coordinated smoothly, though delays may occur if Ryanair flights are being handled. The airport is dominated by Ryanair schedules, which can affect access to the apron and terminal; waiting times of up to an hour are possible during airline operations.
GA parking is ample and located near the flying club hangar or on a grass area; hard stands are limited and the grass surface may have stones or holes, so pulling aircraft by hand is advised. Tie-down rings are available—bring your own ropes. Access between the GA apron and landside is via a coded gate or turnstile; the code is posted near the fire station or gate—note it before exiting as it is required for re-entry. The walk from GA parking to the main terminal ranges from 5 to over 10 minutes depending on parking location.
Landing and parking fees are low, typically about €20 for landing and overnight parking combined. Example: landing and parking about €20. Payment is handled by filling out a form at the information desk in the main terminal; invoices are sent by email, with direct payment at the desk not always possible.
Fuel (100LL/Avgas) is available only via BP card at a self-service pump located away from the GA apron; local pilots or the aeroclub may assist if needed. Credit card payment for fuel has also been possible in some cases. Refueling can be delayed during Ryanair operations.
Facilities include a reasonable restaurant/snack bar in the terminal and several car rental companies on site. Taxis to the city cost about €20; they can be called from the info desk or pre-booked using local numbers such as +33 46871 5050 or +33 468 788 584 (Taxi Nathalie). Waiting times for taxis can be long during busy periods.
Customs/immigration is available in the terminal during ATS hours without prior notice (April–October); outside these months or for extra-Schengen arrivals, advance notice may be required—see AIP/NOTAM for details.
Strong winds are common due to local geography. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM for operational details. Carcassonne itself is a popular destination with convenient access from the airport.
