What other pilots say about LFGF
Strange things going on here... For some time now, the field has also been usable for Switzerland flights, with PPR of course. Since then, however, even though the field is not a "point de passage frontalier," they insist that flights, e.g. from Germany (D), are also subject to the 24-hour prior-notification requirement, which is frankly silly and a real pain. The field is not FR-only, and usually there’s little or no traffic. Runway 02 is the preferred runway. Where you may or may not park is not entirely clear; if needed, check ahead with Aeroclub Beaunois. TOTAL fuel on the field now also accepts regular credit cards. No fees! Taxi phone numbers are posted at the aeroclub building; there’s also the landing register there. Taxis can be hit-or-miss; same goes for UBER. You should have a Plan B for getting into town. Walking is rather far (4 km) and along the main road. The town is touristy but still nice. The Chateau de Savigny-les-Beaune (a château with an outdoor military aircraft exhibit) is 9 km from the field.
LFGF is an unfenced, open airfield near Beaune with no landing or parking fees. Operations are self-announced in French or English on air-to-air frequency, with no permanent staff and no fixed opening hours. The runway and grass parking areas are in very good condition, with a long asphalt runway and obstacle-free approaches. For night operations, PCL instructions are available by emailing the aeroclub. A 24-hour PPR is required for border control, even for intra-Schengen flights; see NOTAM for details.
AVGAS 100LL is available via a Total self-service card-operated pump; Superplus may be arranged by phone through the UL club, which has limited capacity. No restaurant is on site. Taxi service to Beaune should be pre-booked 1–2 hours in advance as availability varies; taxi numbers are posted at the clubhouse and terminal, and a recommended contact is +33 6 66 12 17 82. The taxi ride to Beaune costs about €20. Walking to town takes about an hour, with the first half along a busy road and no public transport observed.
After landing, pilots should enter their details in the terminal logbook; this supports continued free access by demonstrating visitor numbers to local authorities. Noise-sensitive areas require attention—departures should follow published procedures and curve away from the field after takeoff to minimize disturbance to neighbors. Camping on the field appears possible due to lack of fencing or restrictions.
LFGF offers a relaxed, straightforward experience well-suited for GA pilots visiting Burgundy or stopping for fuel, with easy access procedures but limited on-field amenities.
