LESU sits in a scenic Pyrenean valley and is welcoming to general aviation. VFR only for non-commercial flights; the RNP approach is reserved for commercial traffic, though it may be used for guidance. PPR is required, typically by email or the day before, with quick responses in English. ATC/AFIS is only active when commercial flights are scheduled; during these times, GA arrivals are not permitted. Outside these periods, operations use air-to-air frequencies (122.205 or 131.605), and pilots self-announce and select runways using the windsock. The approach requires careful valley navigation and a significant descent; departures may require following a SID through narrow canyons or a climb to 11,000 feet if departing eastbound.
The apron is large with ample parking, though reservations are not possible. Tie-downs are available, and hangars exist but availability is unconfirmed. The operations staff open and close flight plans and assist with parking and fueling. Avgas is available at high prices (BP card required), served by staff who also handle other duties; Jet A1 is also available but reported as expensive.
A simple café/bar operates on the field, offering drinks and light food. Free fast WiFi is available in the terminal. Car hire can be arranged through ifrent.com or similar services, with vehicles delivered to the airport; taxis to Andorra La Vella take about 20–40 minutes and cost €50–€60 one way. The nearby town of La Seu d'Urgell offers accommodation options.
Landing fees are low to moderate for GA aircraft; Example: landing about €30–€40 including overnight parking. Payment by cash, credit card, or BP card is accepted.
High terrain surrounds the airport; wind shifts and turbulence (including lee rotors on final) can occur, so mountain flying experience is recommended. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM for operational details.
Customs checks may occur but are infrequent and generally informal. The airport provides a friendly atmosphere suitable for GA stopovers or visits to Andorra in good weather conditions.
