Flew into Ibiza for the second year in a row, and now that Iberia has lost the contract, Groundforce is the new agent of choice. Contact was quite simple and was set up in July 2024 via phone, followed by email confirmation, and was far more efficient than Iberia for Servicio De Accompaniento. The payment for x2 Minibus transfers, including VAT, was EUR 22.17. IFR SLOTS were scheduled through AEFCA utilising the GCR SSIM IATA format.This year, fuel was pre-booked through AirBP's website and delivered 10 minutes after landing; a brief call to confirm stand number, and the fuel vehicle arrived moments later.The only drawback was massive thunderstorms that hit the airport 30 minutes after landing, preventing us from being picked up for nearly an hour owing to an AENA groundstop. (lightning). We were dropped off at the baggage reclaim hall with the GENDECs. Ensure that this is stamped by Groundforce before returning via security (i.e. when you land), as it is not authorised otherwise and will cause you delays till they turn up. Handling is mandatory for all GA flights at Ibiza. IFR and VFR arrivals both require slots, which are typically arranged by the handling agent. Several agents operate at the airport, including Groundforce, Gestair, ExecuJet, Ibizair, Aviapartner, and Sky Valet; service quality varies between agents. Some pilots note that AviaPartner can be less motivated on the apron compared to others. Slot requests are required and can be managed via SCR/GCR format or directly through the agent.
Fees for GA operations are generally high and can escalate quickly due to mandatory handling and per-person security screening charges. Security fees of €80 per person per movement are common, but these can sometimes be avoided by using specific terminal exits or coordinating with the handler. For short stays with minimal passengers, total costs may be lower; longer stays or multiple passengers increase costs significantly. Example: total charges for landing, parking (9 nights), and handling about €130. Another example: total charges for landing, parking (6 nights), and handling about €90. However, with two people and five days’ stay, fees can reach about €850 due to security surcharges. Parking itself is relatively inexpensive compared to other Spanish airports.
Fuel (Jet A1 and Avgas) is available; Jet A1 can be pre-booked online with prompt delivery reported. Refuelling may require coordination with handlers or ground staff, and delays are possible during busy periods or if special equipment is needed.
The GA terminal is modern and comfortable with efficient access when handled properly. Transport between aircraft and terminal is provided by minibus or crew bus as part of handling; payment for transfers may be required (example: minibus transfer about €30). Taxis can be arranged by handlers directly to the GA terminal, bypassing main terminal queues.
ATC is generally professional but may become overloaded during peak traffic periods; expect possible holding or vectoring near airliners on approach. Circuit entry points and VRPs should be reviewed in advance as procedures may change depending on traffic levels.
Security procedures require attention: ensure all necessary forms are stamped by your handler before passing through Security H to avoid delays on departure.
Ibiza offers a scenic approach over Formentera and the Salinas area. The airport is suitable for non-commercial GA but expect high costs due to mandatory handling and security fees.
