Information from pirep.io:
Description: Quillayute was originally a military airport during WWII. Today it is open as a public airport that sees light use. There's not much as this airport, but if you're in the area it's worth stopping by to see the remnants of a 1940's era military airport. One large hangar remains as does the landing area for blimps. If your have folding bikes, it's reasonable to bike down to the coast. Be sure to bring a jacket as even in the summer the coastal wind will be chilly.
Transient Parking: Pretty much anywhere on the massive ramp that is likely to be otherwise empty.
Comments from pilots:
- This is one of my favorite airports to take friends to - even if you don’t park and explore on foot, just taxiing around the airport gives lots to look at that you normally don’t see around airports… and then on a 22 takeoff you pop up over the trees and the Pacific is spread out in front of you.
