Palanga (EYPA) is a modern, regional airport with a relaxed tower and generally friendly, efficient service. Both VFR and IFR operations are straightforward, with no PPR required. The airport is described as bureaucratic at times, with some procedural complexity, especially for fuel: fuel is only dispensed after a flight plan for the next leg is filed. For use of the Palanga TMA, an additional fee applies.
Fees vary depending on services and duration. Example: landing and all fees about €70. Another example: landing, two days parking, handling and state charges about €60. A TMA usage surcharge of €20 may apply. MET or weather briefing fees can add around €20. Handling is mandatory but basic; payment can be by card, though occasional issues have been noted.
Avgas and JetA1 are available; Avgas is described as expensive but reliably present. Overnight parking is available without issue. Rental cars from major chains can be arranged quickly on site.
Transport to Klaipeda by taxi costs about €30 per trip; bus connections exist but may require coordination with drivers. The airport is approximately 4 km from Palanga town; Klaipeda lies about 23–35 km away.
The approach over the Curonian Spit offers scenic views; ATC may request radio checks up to 50 nm out and may require maintaining at least 3000 ft until Klaipeda. All ATC services use frequency 124.305.
Facilities include an on-field bistro (closed Sundays) and easy access to local hotels, though accommodation in peak season can be limited. The area offers attractive beaches and tourist activities.
Overall, EYPA is suitable for non-commercial GA flights seeking reliable fuel, straightforward operations, and good ground access to Palanga or Klaipeda, though expect some administrative steps and moderate fees.
