What other pilots say about EDWT
Flew into Blexen several times as part of the Niedersachsenrallye.
As previously described, for powered flight the north traffic pattern (800 ft) is preferred; the approach to Runway 27 leads over water with a nice view past the Bremerhaven shoreline. An approach from the south over the Weser is also no problem. On departure from Runway 27, if possible, turn early to approx. HDG 300 (see also wlv-blexen.de). In a northerly wind, expect turbulence behind the dike!
Warm and helpful welcome at the field. Despite busy traffic, the flight operations were professional, low-key, and relaxed. The field is PPR; especially on summer weekends it seems unproblematic; they are happy to have visitors.
No fuel. We did not use the ferry to Bremerhaven this time.
Because of the beautiful location behind the dike and the friendly atmosphere, definitely worth a visit!
EDWT operates primarily on weekends in summer, typically from 10:00 to 19:00, and is PPR at other times. The airfield has a long, well-maintained grass runway and no IFR procedures or asphalt surface. For powered aircraft, the northern circuit at 800 ft is preferred; approaches to runway 27 are scenic over water, with departures advised to turn early to heading 300 when possible. Expect turbulence behind the dike with northerly winds. No fuel is available.
Landing and parking are free; donations are appreciated. Example: landing and overnight parking about €0 (donation encouraged). The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
Ground access to the Blexen ferry terminal for Bremerhaven is a direct walk of about 26 minutes along the dike or around 45 minutes via an alternative route; a lift may be available if someone is present. Taxis are recommended for those with luggage. The ferry runs frequently except Sundays, with tickets sold onboard. See www.weserfaehre.de/fahrplan for schedules.
PPR requests can be made by email; responses are timely. No phone contact for PPR is listed in the AIP.
