Super friendly staff! Nice restaurant- check website if open outside main season and weekdays. All fuels available. Parking can be limited due to lack of space and lots of visitors. Leer city is very nice!

EDWF (Leer-Papenburg) is widely recognized for its exceptional friendliness, helpfulness, and service orientation. The airfield is frequently used as a base for island-hopping and as a fuel stop, with many pilots highlighting the outstanding support from flight operations staff. Communication in English is possible, though some find it easier in German. The team routinely assists with fueling, parking, hangar arrangements, accommodation, taxis, and even technical or maintenance issues; Hangar One offers on-site maintenance.

No landing fee is charged when fuel is purchased. Otherwise, landing fees are moderate; Example: landing fee about €50 for a 3.3 t aircraft. Fuel prices are consistently described as low. Parking on hard surfaces is available but can be limited during busy periods; grass parking and tie-downs are well maintained. Hangar space may be available on request. Camping next to the aircraft is possible and sometimes free.

A well-regarded restaurant/café with terrace operates on the field, praised for quality and value, though opening days may vary. Coffee and snacks are often provided when the restaurant is closed. Leihfahrräder (loaner bikes) are available at no charge; App2drive cars can be rented for local exploration. The city center of Leer is 7–15 minutes away by taxi or minicar (approx. €10), and the old town with harbor is recommended for visits.

The asphalt runway (1200 x 20 m) is in good condition and suitable for touch-and-go training; runway lighting and PAPI exist. Approach to RWY 26 over a lake can be turbulent due to trees and crosswinds; flight operations provide clear guidance on wind conditions and circuit procedures. The airfield is easy to find by visual reference to the TV tower south of the runway—use caution regarding its proximity.

Fuel types available include Avgas, Mogas, and Jet A1. Technical support and minor maintenance are accessible via Hangar One or local contacts. Overnight stays in hangars or tents are often accommodated flexibly.

Customs/immigration may be available with prior notice (PPR), but confirmation via AIP/NOTAM is advised if required.

Leer-Papenburg stands out as a highly welcoming GA destination with excellent infrastructure, low fuel costs, flexible ground support, quality food options, convenient access to the region, and a strong reputation for pilot-focused hospitality.
