Kassel-Calden (EDVK) is a large, modern airport with professional ATC and friendly, helpful ground staff. Both VFR and IFR operations are supported, with IAPs and SIDs/STARs available in both directions. The airport is suitable for training and offers efficient handling for quick stops, including refueling; fuel can be arranged by notifying the tower on final, and payment is possible by BP card or credit card in the office. No handling is required for GA, and parking is available directly at the GAT.
The General Aviation Terminal (GAT) provides a coffee machine (coins only), WC, briefing room, C office, and rest areas; however, there is no food service at the GAT itself. Food options are available in the main terminal about 5–10 minutes (500–800 m) on foot from the GAT, where a cafeteria or snack bar offers good food at moderate prices. Drinks and snack vending machines are also present at the GAT. Accommodation in a pilot rest room is possible on site.
Landing fees for GA are generally low to moderate. Example: landing fee about €40; another example: landing fee about €30; IFR approach surcharge about €5. Parking fees apply after several hours; short-term parking is usually included or inexpensive. A surcharge for fuel service may apply (example: fuel service surcharge about €40). The Landegutscheinheft is accepted.
Ground transport options include app2drive rental cars available directly at the GAT, with a drive to Kassel city taking around 15–20 minutes. A bus stop outside the main terminal (500 m from GAT) offers hourly service to Kassel; taxi rides to Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe station cost about €30.
The airport hosts significant skydiving activity and circuit training; pilots should remain vigilant for parachute operations and expect occasional busy periods in the circuit. Noise abatement procedures require strict adherence to published arrival and departure routes to avoid overflying nearby villages.
Customs and immigration are available with good opening hours; advance notice may be required—see AIP/NOTAM for details. The German Piper importer is based on site and can provide maintenance support for light GA aircraft.
Overall, EDVK offers excellent infrastructure, efficient procedures, friendly service, low to moderate fees, and good facilities for non-commercial general aviation flights.
