Civil Airfield Bad Duerkheim (EDRF)

EDRF offers a welcoming atmosphere with friendly and helpful flight service. The airfield features a grass runway of approximately 480–600 meters, which is considered short; pilots note the approach to runway 08 as scenic but mention a nearby hall and a tree line north of the runway that can cause turbulence or sudden sink, especially with north or northeast winds. Radio communication is generally clear and supportive, with English available. The airfield operates with good opening hours, typically from 10:30 local on weekdays.

Landing fees are described as low to moderate. Example: landing fee about €10. Payment is card-only. Parking is on grass surfaces only; there are no asphalt parking spots, and the grass can be uneven or soft in winter, sometimes with molehills. Overnight parking is possible.

A popular on-field restaurant with a terrace and winter garden serves regional cuisine, cakes, and steaks at fair prices. The restaurant is often busy—advance reservation is recommended, especially in winter or on weekends. There is no access to power outlets for guests inside the restaurant. WiFi access is available upon request.

The city center and spa area are accessible by foot in about 20–30 minutes; a nearby lake and camping site are reachable within 3–5 minutes on foot, and bicycles can be rented at the camping site. During September’s Wurstmarkt festival, pilots landing may receive a complimentary bottle of wine.

Fuel (Mogas and Avgas) is available; however, engine run-ups near the fuel station and restaurant can cause significant noise disturbance for guests on the terrace. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM for operational details.
