What other pilots say about EDOU
Weimar is worth a trip; Umpferstedt is a good stop for it. 17.50€ for landing and overnight for 1400 MTOW. Narrow but adequate asphalt strip in the middle of the grass runway. The runway is slightly downhill; RWY 28 is advantageous for landing and RWY 10 for takeoff (wind permitting). Already on approach we were offered to arrange a cab (we had kwiggles with us). Unfortunately only Mogas, no Avgas, but Hof was en route (2.50€/L). Otherwise highly recommended.
Weimar-Umpferstedt (EDOU) offers a friendly and accommodating atmosphere with consistently positive experiences for general aviation pilots. The airfield features a narrow asphalt runway integrated with a wider grass strip, both in good condition. The runway rises toward 28 and has a slight slope, with 400–550 meters of asphalt followed by 270 meters of grass; the transition is smooth and does not present operational issues. Both VFR and circuit operations are straightforward, with separate north and south patterns for ultralights.
Landing fees are low, with examples ranging from about €5 for ultralights to about €20 for single-engine aircraft including overnight parking. Example: landing and overnight parking about €20. Parking is available on grass, with tie-downs using weighted tires; hangar space may be limited during busy periods. Superbenzin (mogas) is available on request, but no Avgas is offered.
On-field facilities include simple accommodation (rooms with clean showers and breakfast), a small café or bistro, and bicycle rentals (about €10 per day). Pilots mention the availability of coffee, cake, and basic meals at the airfield. The city of Weimar is accessible by taxi (about €35 one way) or by bicycle (about 30 minutes to downtown). Taxis can be pre-ordered during approach or upon landing.
The airfield is described as well-maintained, with helpful staff and a welcoming environment. The location is ideal for visiting Weimar’s cultural attractions. No customs or immigration services are mentioned. The combination of low fees, good facilities, and proximity to Weimar makes EDOU a recommended stop for non-commercial general aviation flights.
