Civil Airfield Giessen Luetzellinden (EDFL)

EDFL is a friendly airfield with active local flying club presence and generally helpful staff. Operations require careful preparation, especially for landings to the east and departures to the west. PPR is often required, particularly outside standard hours or in winter; communication quality and availability vary, so advance phone contact is recommended. The airfield is known for a narrow, sloped asphalt taxiway that requires caution, and some taxiway sections have hidden obstacles such as a concrete wall in grass near the hold for runway 25. The grass parking area can be uneven or overgrown at times.

Approaches to runway 07 are complicated by high trees and a displaced threshold, while runway 25 is obstacle-free. Noise abatement procedures must be observed in the circuit. There is regular parachute activity, especially in good weather, requiring extra vigilance.

Facilities include an asphalt runway in good condition, modern fuel station offering Avgas, SuperPlus (Mogas), and Jet A1, maintenance services (including UL), and hangarage. Card payment for landing fees is not available; only cash is accepted. Example: landing fee about €10. Restaurant service on site is inconsistent—service may be refused without reservation even when tables are available; alternatives exist in Wetzlar or Gießen, both accessible by taxi or minicar in about 10 minutes.
