What other pilots say about EDAK

Slightly rough runway, but fully usable and very long. Best to call ahead by mobile phone; otherwise the operator may be briefly away—otherwise straightforward and helpful.

Interesting exhibits and bunkers; history alive at the +/- oldest German airfield still in operation.

Instead of a taxi (sometimes hard to get in Grossenhain), better to order a rental car by phone at the field for 42 €/day. Or bring a bicycle.

Meissen and the Elbe are beautiful, the area around the field less so.

Avgas available but not needed.

Closure has been announced for years in favor of an industrial park, but hopefully not for a long time yet!

EDAK features a very long concrete runway, generally in usable condition, though described as somewhat rough; grass runway also available but can be uneven. Taxiways and apron areas may be bumpy, with some cracks and raised concrete plates near the fuel station requiring caution when taxiing. Avgas and Mogas are available on site. Parking tie-downs and hangar space are present, with helpful staff often assisting with aircraft handling and logistics. The airfield is known for its friendly, accommodating personnel and a relaxed atmosphere.

On-field accommodation is available at "Richthofen's" with simple but clean rooms and shared facilities; breakfast included. Example: overnight stay about €20. Additional hotel options such as Hotel Kupferberg are accessible by taxi (approximate fare €15) or a 45-minute walk. Taxis can be difficult to obtain locally; ordering a rental car by phone at the airfield is suggested, with rates around €50 per day. Bicycles are also recommended for local transport.

A small museum with historic aircraft and bunkers is located on the field, offering opportunities for visits and social gatherings. Limited food service is available on site, typically ending early in the afternoon; otherwise, it is a 30-minute walk to town for restaurants.

PPR by phone is advised to ensure staff presence, as the operator may occasionally be away from the field. Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM for current requirements. Example: landing fee about €20. The airfield maintains a welcoming environment for general aviation pilots seeking straightforward operations and historical interest.
