Handling is mandatory, typically arranged via FAST, with contact at +216 718 09761. Operations are generally professional and straightforward for both VFR and IFR, but expect a complex airport layout and potentially slow processing through security and passport control. Aircraft are routed via multiple reporting points on arrival. Both runways 01/19 and 11/29 are in use in all directions, so tailwinds may occur; see AIP/NOTAM for procedures.
Fees for landing and handling are high. Example: landing and handling about €600. Another example: landing and handling about €270. Handling by FAST is commonly used and described as efficient. For business flights without handling, landing fees can be about €100.
Avgas is not available; Jet-A1 is available and described as inexpensive. Avgas may be arranged through Tunisavia with advance notice, but supply is unreliable and slow, as it is managed by the military; confirm availability before planning fuel stops. Tankers for Jet-A1 are available on request.
Customs and immigration procedures are generally efficient when handled by FAST, though some paperwork (including aircraft registration on entry/exit cards) is required. Uniformed crew with company IDs may experience faster processing and shop discounts.
Taxis require cash payment; exchanging money on arrival is recommended. French is widely used at the airport. The city offers notable attractions such as the Bardo Museum and ancient ruins.
Procedures vary; see AIP/NOTAM.
